I've been reading complaints of sinus sufferers and you have my sympathy! The weather in Louisiana is some of the worst for allergy and sinus sufferers. Over the years and with the help of a Chinese friend, I have come up with

a "remedy" that does help me. Apply warm compresses. Sip a warm soup of chicken broth, sliced ginger root, mashed garlic, Chinese dried red peppers, keffir lime leaves, sliced spring onions, and dried "tree ears", a Chinese fungus. The exotic ingredients can be found in Asian markets and some restaurants will sell by the ounce. This will not cure your misery, but I have found that it does ease the symptoms. Good Luck!

Thank you, Tink. I appreciate your input. I should have mentioned that the soup is only a secondary approach to the miseries of sinus and allergies. You are correct. Medical treatment should be the first approach.

Back in the 90's I got 11 sinus infections in 12 months so I had to go on allergy shots three times a week and at a higher dosage than most patients. After years I am no longer doing shots and only get about 2 sinus infections a year.

I know the pain and pressure well and it is hard to wait for relief with medicine especially if congestion is bad. One day I remembered how my nose always would run when I swam as a child. So, gross or not I got a big plastic bowl full of very warm water, placed on my kitchen bar and put my face in it and just shook my head back and forth for as long as I could hold my breath. When I was really congested had to warm up water a few times and submerge quite a bit but I always got some relief. Some days more than others. When you are desperate you will try anything. I am so thrilled even after all these years to only have trouble in Feb. and Aug.- Sept. Good Luck and I hope you need a big box of Kleenex when the pressure gives way!!

I have had sinus surgery twice...have probably tried or been prescribed everything you can imagine, but one that ng works best....get a small squeeze bottle and add saline solution. Hold over the sink and squeeze the water 3 times into each nostril....let it run out into the sink...don't swallow or sniff just let it irrigate your sinus passages....do this first thing in the morning and before bedtime. You are clearing out pollen, dust, etc that you have breathed in during the day or has settled in your nose overnight. You can buy the bottle and prepackaged saline packets at the drugstore for very little money.

I had suffered with sinus pressure/headaches for decades. I would go to walkin clinics and get steroid shot and Z-pac about once every 9 months. It seemed that I suffered year round.

About 5 years ago, I started taking a Zyrtec every day and IF I had any sign of that sinus pressure coming on I take 2 Advil Cold and Sinus. I have not had to go for meds in the last 5 years and have just about been headache free.

the neti-pot was just ok for me. Never ever use tap water. This water is full of contaminants you could get a very very bad infection.

I just take an antihistamine with decongestant when it's bad. That helps the sinus pressure and my ears. As far as locations being worse than others. It depends what you're allergic to. Mine weren't nearly as bad in Louisiana as they were when we lived in the desert.

I've been down with a cold, sore throat and sinus congestion for a week. Thursday went to a med aid unit and doctor prescribed an antibiotic. Two days later experienced pain and pressure under eye and when I woke up the next morning had swelling there. I thought initially it was a reaction to the antibiotic so stopped taking it, but now based on what I am reading here I'm wondering if the swelling could have been caused by the sinus in that location? Never had a reaction to this particular antibiotic before.

I used to always have sinus problems with terrible sinus headaches that started every November. This past year I started using a saline spray in my nose twice a day (I would do it before I brushed my teeth in the morning and evening so I wouldn't forget). I have not had any sinus problems at all since doing this.

I got this tip from the Dr. Oz. show. The relief has been wonderful!
