I just had some extensive blood tests done that show I have severe inflammation which may affect my heart ( the number should have been less than 2 and mine was 50). My vitamin D levels were extremely low and my good cholesterol was low. I'm taking Zocor, Vitamin D, Fish Oil, and Chondroitin/Glucosamine ..all recommended by my doctor. Is there a supplement that targets inflammation that I can add to my regimen? I take 800 mg. of Ibuprofen twice daily just to deal with the pain and swelling. BTW...I believe that I have Fibromyalgia, but it has never been diagnosed.

You can reduce inflammation through diet and supplements. Dr Perricone became known for his anti inflammation diet. His book is the pinnacle of knowledge on this subject. It is in paperback form. Look for it in bookstores, online, or in the library. His skin care is anti inflammation based.

info on his website, also: http://www.perriconemd.com

Turmeric is good, too. You can take pretty high doses of this. Chiropractor also told me Boswellia (sp) is good. He's very smart. Keep taking what you're taking. You need lots of vita D to catch up.

Eliminate sugar and processed starches from your diet.

Eat salmon at least 3 times a week. Drink unsweetened tart cherry juice.

Exercise...at least 30 minutes a day.

Get your teeth cleaned at least 3 times a year.

Plus the supplements.

Taking supplements won't do a thing if you still have a diet filled with a lot of sugar and starches (and alcohol too).

Curcumin (with Bioperine to help with absorption). Curcumin (turmeric) helps with inflammation. A nurse recommended it to me, but like always you should talk to your doctor.

I will never understand the rigidity of this board.

People asking for "idea, thoughts, suggestions" are really smart enough to ask a question and then research an idea or suggestion to figure out if it is best for them, or even worth asking a Dr about.

Some of the best information, whether it be a medical question, or buying a washer, comes from 'word of mouth'.

A message board nothing more than digital word of mouth, imo.

Also, in my opinion, most Dr's know very little about adjunct stuff. I would trust Andrew Lessman(HSN) over my own Dr for supplement information, in a heartbeat! Dr's don't have every answer.

I find I have to be my own health advocate nowadays. I ask many questions, wherever I want to, and filter the info myself. I end end up finding out things I had never heard of. I have thyroid disease. I won't feel better just depending on my DR, that is for sure.

I find it insulting that some members of this particular board beat the "this is not the place to ask 'that' kind of question (anything medical) drum over and over.

Why can't the people that want to make a suggestion, do so.

Those that feel off-put by a question, then just don't offer up any idea?

No one is going to get sued by giving a suggestion/idea on a public message board.

I'm glad there were several votes for turmeric. I am taking 2 tsps a day right now; in capasule form and also just plain turmeric powder. I find that the powder works better for me, in that I actually feel a difference in my aches and pains being very much reduced and in only a week or so for me. I was dx in 2012 with breast cancer, went thru all the surgery and treatments and am taking tamoxifen now. As a result of the heavy duty chemo, I am suffering from body/bone aches and pain and also from neuropathy of my fingers and bottoms of my feet still today. I put 1 tspof the powder in my morning smoothies and then take a capsule at night. I have a few more caps to use up and then it's just the powder form from now on. Also I grind just a touch of black pepper in with the turmeric powder as those two are best friends. I buy organic turmeric at my local natural food store and this time of year there is fresh turmeric, that doesn't have the bite that the powder has. Just remember to check with your dr first.

Agreed!

ETA: I agree with Turmeric as a good anti-inflammatory.
