Ladies, please remember that if you are taking thyroid REPLACEMENT it does require a prescription but it is something that youare giving your body because your body REQUIRES IT. I notice that there are people who refuse to seek treatment for thyroid problems because they are afraid to take MEDICINE if they must have their thyroid glands removed. Although there ARE medicines that are taken to treat the effects of HYPERthyroidism, levoxcyl and Armour Thyroid are taken to replace the hormone that your gland will no longer be making. Sometimes the vocabulary of this lousy, dangerous disease is as bad as the disease itself.

I just had my thyroid removed a few months ago. It was a process. My daughter had 1/2 of her's removed. My other daughter will have make this decision soon, as will the other daughter.

It took a few years of trying to first figure out what it was. I kept saying, something was wrong. Finally I went to an endochronologist and he did lots of testing and I had many biopsies done.

I don't regret for a minute I had it removed, neither does my daughter. She had trouble getting her dosage right (this often happens when you only have a portion removed).

I feel so much better since I had it removed. I have to take a very high dosage of medicine for the rest of my life, but it's worth it when I think of how terrible I felt before.

I hope you get it straightened out. Just remember you know your body better than anyone, anyone. Don't let people question how you feel. Be agressive in finding out why you feel bad.

Life is too short not to feel good.

annabellethecat...you are absolutely right. I had 1/2 of my thyroid removed in 1998 which was a big mistake. The surgeon talked me into leaving in the other half. He told me the rest of the thyroid would burn itself out within 6 months. Well, its 17 years and the half thyroid is still going strong. My meds go up and down constantly. If anyone has to have the thyroid removed, please take out the whole thing.

Consult your doctor. My mama was also hypothyroid and suffered from poor circulation. Her hands and feet were always cold and she constantly bundled. The house was kept at an 80-degree constant for her. Still not always warm enough. She had very narrow veins and arteries, which made her more susceptible to the complications of careless procedures. Her arteries were easily damaged. I am telling you this because the narrowness of her arteries contributed to her recent death following a not-careful emergency angioplasty and stent. One of her groin arteries was punctured; the internal bleeding led to a series of subsequent complications including a second, fatal heart attack two weeks later.
