I have battled my weight all my life. When I'm "dieting", I am obsessed with the scale and when I stop whatever plan I'm on at the moment, I refuse to step on the scale. This time, I'm staying away from my home scale completely. I'm judging my progress by how I feel and how my clothes fit. Has anyone else done this?

I use to avoid the scale when I was in denial. My weight would yo yo. When I started weighing myself regular, it made me more honest with myself. My weight does not yo yo now and I know where I stand. I think the numbers are important to see.

Weight on a scale isn't telling you the whole story. I learned to do my body calculations which are far different than that idiot BMI they came up with.

So yes, I gave up the scale.

I gave away my scale in 1992. I have only learned my weight once since then, when it was required before surgery (my doctor does the occasional "stealth weigh-in" for me, where he doesn't tell me what the scale says). It took a while, but eventually my weight, which had yo-yo'd wildly through a range of more than 100 pounds, settled at a nice, healthy average size.

Everyone is different. For some people the scale is a good check and measure of progress. For others it's a constant source of frustration and anxiety. Only you can tell what will work best for you.

Give up the scale? No. But I stopped letting it rule my emotions over a decade ago. I no longer have ""goal weights"" or anything like that. I honestly don't care about my ""weight."" And I have managed to lose lots of fat & get healthy anyway.

Yes, decades ago. I am only interested in my body composition percentage/body fat to muscle tissue ratio, not arbitrary scale numbers. This equates to how I feel, not numbers on a scale.

yes, and it's been recently too. I'm not tracking either. I realized, you have to eat, and I don't want to be so obsessed. It's like, don't think about food, but think about what to eat and buy. It's become a vicious cycle. I've got foods good for us in the house. After all these years, we pretty much know what we should and shouldn't eat and to not overdo it. I just decided enough is enough and I can decide that.

The only time that I don't weight daily is when I know I'm eating too much and don't want a visual on what I know I'm doing which is eating too much. I love eating!! Went back to WW in January and I'm down a little over 10 lbs. I love seeing the numbers go down on the scale (or sometimes just not seeing them go up). It gives me incentive to keep going.
