Is all ''CoQ10" created equal?

My doctor wants me to start taking CoQ10 - 400 mg. Any suggestions such as brand or is it alright to just go grab one off of the shelf?

I take Andrew Lessman's co q 10. It is sourced from Konica (I'm not sure I spelled that right) It is produced in the USA, Most other co q 10 comes from China - and I really wouldn't take a supplement that originates in China.

I love Andrew Lessman's products and their purity as well as the lack of added ingredients and/or colors. Check the label. Also - they're capsule which are easy to swallow.

No it's not created equal. You do want to make sure you only buy Kaneka CoQ10. I also use Andrew Lessman TruQ10 & CoQ10. There are 2 forms of CoQ10 Ubiquinol & Ubiquinone.

Kaneka, the Japanese company? Just trying to clarify, you use that and the Lessman CoQ10?

The delivery system for CoQ10 differs. I took one in rice flour and my DH took one in rice oil. The fillers and preservatives can make a big difference when you take them. You may have to find the right one for you. If I take the one in rice oil I get a terrific belly ache!

I take Andrew Lessman's Essential vitamin and his mix for eye health.

I'd like to take his CoQ10 but as I recall, it's very expensive, I should look again. I've been taking CoQ10 from Costco.

Absolutely it is not all created equal. I have seen regular CoQ10 and high absorption CoQ10. I read one consumer study that said even Ubiquinol varies in quality.

Andrew Lesman all the way!! Did anyone catch the article that GNC, Target, and Walgreens was selling certain supplements that had fillers including houseplants. I would never buy anything but Andrew Lesman. Worth every penny.

I really respect Andrew Lessman he was an FDA lawyer before he when off on his own...

And for what you get his products are very reasonable plus flex pay many times on the TSV you can buy enough for the whole year, or if you take double for 6 mos.

Another good company is Purity and their half hour educational promotion on radio.

The point is, even if you don't buy none of their product your are an informed consumer.

Or maybe do some research that's NOT linked to the person invested in selling you his product. Anyone selling you his own version of something is biased and you should check that information against other sources.

There are many vitamin companies that are reputable. I just googled it and found a Consumer Labs report. Kirkland (Costco), Nature Made, Life Extension, Barlean's and Puritan's Pride are among the top rated vitamins. I take Barlean's flaxseed oil capsules and have taken many supplements from Puritan's Pride in the past. I also found an article in the New York Times that mentions Consumer Labs testing. It specifically mentioned Costco and Puritan's Pride as being good and what they say they are.

The CoQ10 I have seen at Costco is always no name imported. I too always prefer to use Kaneka source material even though it is more expensive. I also buy it solubilized in fat because it is a fat soluble nutrient and should be taken when you are eating food with fat to aid absorption. The capsules are a powder form so it is another step for you body to get it into the right format to absorb.

Glucosamine - the best form is Glucosamine Sulfate, not the Glucosamine HCl. It works better. I like many many things from Costco, but have to say that I buy very little from their supplement area. Supplement quality is a tricky thing...for some types it makes a big difference and for others not so much. I do not care for the majority of supplement products Costco carries.

I also would not buy very much from Puritan Pride. They made their reputation on selling lots of bottles very cheap. I would only buy from them if the ingredients in the supplement discloses the specific manufacturer. But there are so many choices out there that I rarely even look at their site.

I don't know what Consumer Labs is. I can't find any information on how they test and who they may or may not be in the tank for.

They are not associated with Consumer Reports (although the bloom is off that rose, for me, I still believe they do run quality testing).
