Last time I had one, dr prescribed RX, didn't help. Remedy that time was medical massage, several of them. Completely took care of it. This time it is my neck, probably need to call my massage therapist. Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions. Surgery would be my last resort.

I have had 3 crushed cervical vertebra in my neck since the 1990's. The thing that works the best for me during the most painful times was Chiropractic adjustments which I had done by a late friend of mine that was a chiropractor. They obviously are not repaired, but at this point my orthopedic friends tell me it would be better to leave them alone. I have used several cervical pillows which helped a great bet during the rougher times.I suggest taking some anti-inflammatory if you are able and also if the pain persists I would definitely suggest seeing and orthopedic DR and let him determine if you need an MRI.

Yes, I dealt with a pinched nerve on the right side of my neck. I had acupuncture, and chiropractic spinal adjustments. My pinched nerve was a combo of being rear-ended in an accident, and overdoing it from daily activity. The acupuncture was relaxing, and I learned changing my sleep position (from stomach, to side) helped my neck muscles too.

I've had a pinched nerve in my lower back, along with sciatica. My chiropractor worked wonders on it, but it took awhile to heal.

If you can find a recommendation from a friend who has a chiro, I'd certainly give that a try before surgery.

In 2010 I fell down a full flight of stairs and hit my left cheek and face on the banister bottom full force. I nearly died. I had a concussion and three brain bleeds (the same thing Natasha Richardson died from when she hit her head skiing). I was unconscious on and off for about two days and in the hospital. Lucky for me DH was home when this happened and heard the fall.

One of the residual affects has been a pinched nerve in my neck. I've not had surgery, I've used exercises (and my DH has helped by massaging my neck and shoulders).... it's kept it from flaring up all the time. First time I experienced the pinched nerve, we were having lunch out and out of no where a radiating pain went across my shoulders and down my arms to my elbows! It was unlike anything I've ever experienced and my first thought was a heart attack so off to the ER we went. Ten hours later (and a cat scan the next day and nearly $10K) no heart problems were found. That was when they diagnosed the pinched nerve.

I will avoid surgery at all costs. If you decide on exercise, make sure you get them from your doctor and that you do them exactly as described.

Very best to you....

Oh yeh, the last time was this past fall. The pain was up my neck, down into my shoulder blade and down my arm. Spent almost 2 weeks on advil, ice packs & the heating pad. Finally went to the chiropractor, symptoms lessened with each visit, if memory serves I went a total of 6 times, maybe 7. While being treated 2 things he told me not to do, don't carry my purse over my shoulder and do not lift anything remotely heavy till it totally resolved. I was very careful for at least a month after treatment, if I felt the slightest twinge I stopped what I was doing. And he did have me continue the ice then heat a few times a day while being treated.

I have a pinched nerve in my neck and it is not operable. I tried physical therapy and it helped. What I found to be the most helpful is medical massages. It is not a cure but it sure does help. I am considering acupuncture for when medical massages no longer help. I have had acupuncture done years back for something else and it worked.

Valleygirl, I'm so glad you recommended Dr. Sarno's book. Years ago I often had lower back problems and also sciatica at times. I blamed it on lots of physical library work. Then I read two of Dr. Sarno's books; in fact, I read them both at least twice. You have to be open minded and willing to try his methods, but they sure worked for me. This has nothing to do with drugs or physical exercise. The subconscious mind is a powerful thing.
