I have three different Sunbeam heating pads and all heat up - in fact, the high heat level is in most cases too hot for me. I purchased the three thru QVC - one is for my neck, one is for my back and one closes in front and is good for my shoulders and upper back. I have tried many many other brands and always come back to Sunbeam. It seems also that the Sunbeams sold in drug stores and other places are not the same as those sold on QVC.

I have no idea what is going on with heating pads. I have a Sunbeam I bought about 4 years ago and it heats up great. Really warm on the highest setting. I bought a Soft Heat brand and it never go hot. Just Luke warm. Same with a brand new Sunbeam from QVC. Maybe heating pads just don't get hot anymore? I would like to have a good one. Thanks.

I have a 3 Sunbeam's. I remember when electric blankets got really hot. In fact my dog was burned deeply from sleeping on the element at the foot of my bed years ago. Now they call them "warming blankets", because they fixed that problem.

Thermophore. My husband has bad migraines and has been using this for many years. It gets VERY hot -- and because of this you have to have your finger on the control for it to work. It took us awhile to find this one -- and I agree that others are just about worthless in terms of heat. You can find many different sizes on Amazon.

I think they passed new regulations regarding how hot they can get. They seem to have automatic shut-offs now, too. I guess people were getting burned by them. I've had that happen to me with the older ones.

I have a newer Sunbeam heating pad that I got at Wal-Mart and it gets pretty hot. It does have an automatic shut-off feature on the high setting, I think.

I usually turn it on high to get it hot, and then use it on low, and that keeps it warm enough for me.

I'm sure they put heavy restrictions on heating pads nowadays and how hot they can get. Years ago my elderly dad sat in his recliner with a heating pad on his lower back. The next day he had burn welts where the heating pad had been.

I have bought several Sunbeam heating pads from the Q, which I use every single day, and some of them have lasted for several years. I use them at low temperatures (1-2) and have never been burned.

I would never buy those plastic things one can get in a drug store.

I have a Sunbeam I purchased from Wal-Mart a few years ago that gets hot on the highest setting, but I don't like the automatic shut-off feature. I think they all have that now, per regulations. So I have to keep turning the thing back on.

I still have a couple of the old plastic crinkly small pads with no safety features and I do think they get a little hotter. I used them every month for years and they would literally leave red marks on my skin from the heat. But it did relieve the pain.

I think sometimes nowadays it's a matter of trial and error; you just have to buy one and try it out to see if it gets hot enough for you. Even some that have more heat settings and have a 'high' setting won't necessarily be warm enough.

I have owned only one. My husband bought it from Walgreens about 2 years ago. I had a muscle spasm on one side of my neck and thought of heat immediately. I also use moist heat whenever this HAD occured; sprinkled water (not much) onto a soft cloth then put it on top of the Sunbeam heating pad. I have no idea if it's the same one (soft -LIKE velour fabric) with 5 settings and an auto shut off at a 2 hour period. This particular heating pad, as far as I'm concerned is one great product. {*Never use heated plastic next to skin*}.

On cold nights I use it for my back; it seems for me, that once my back is very warm, then the rest of my body sinks into sleep very quickly. It was a fluke that my husband chose this one....```````probably because of the picture of: {around the neck on woman on box)?

I really like the feature of a 'shut off' in 2 hours because anyone can be burned easily with out knowing, if left on for hours, especially at the #5 (hottest setting).

I did see one on Q that had the " entire heat pad" / (very 'gentle warmth') that extended to neck to lower back. I have no more details about this particular one, but it was a Sunbeam.

I'm possibly sure that if you put in Sunbeam on SEARCH, it would come up.

Hope this helps, if trying to narrow down for any purchase.

_Naes

Thanks to all of you for your help.

May BE that you have a defective one, in Sunbeam? Mine, from above post was about $ 46.00.

As I had mentioned earlier, the hottest is #5. That is hot enough for next to skin heating.

The Sunbeam that I own does have the auto shut off every 2 hours. Be very careful with dry or moist heat using 'any' heat pad. You can blister and have complications of broken skin from a blister forming, thus an infection building. The blister would start out as a round red area and develop into a closed BLISTER filled with fluid.

That[ blister] will break open and the HEAL will take approximately 2+ weeks, if using a topical antibiotic, then iodine. DO NOT BANDAGE A BURN AREA if you do not know what you are familair with, as a cover for bacteria to enter. AIR DRY and treat with any OTC antiseptic. KEEP FINGERS OFF!

_Naes

You NEVER want the skin to "STAY" red, after 20 minutes when removed. if the pain is that bad, then I would either take an anti-inflammatory med or (at least) call or tell your doctor/ his nurse `of any suggestions`.
_Naes
