So have 2 weeks before I even find out whats going on. Stressed over it because I'm the process of other life changes. Will say this I have good insurance for the first time in my life, thanks to the affordable care act aka Obamacare. So I have to get caught up on many medical exams I couldn't previously afford or insurance didn't cover. It's making me a nervous wreck though because call backs are never assuring. Reading some of the replies has actually helped with the anxiety. Thank you ladies for sharing your stories & hope everything turns out OK OP.

Seagrl, I'm sorry this is happening for you. I'll be thinking of you as you go through this. I focus on being positive, but afford myself about 24 hour pity party at each step.. next pity party scheduled for Wednesday (biopsy). I truly adore my doctor but I have been going to the imaging place directly and picking up my reports... it has helped to know the facts. I hope that may help you. And thanks to all the very special ladies here who have helped me.
Thank you for your kind words. Hope everything goes well for you & please let us know how it all turns out. mine is scheduled for next week Wednesday. The facts do give a lot of comfort. Blessings to you

I would say make sure your insurance will pay for the extra views. Because of Obamacare, many are being denied.

I agree. It is very common. I don't know anyone who hasn't had this happen at one time or another. They're just being thorough.

I've been called back for more views, and I've also been called back for ultrasounds, and once had to have a biopsy. Everything was fine every single time. I completely understand being concerned. That's normal. But it could be as simple as the films being unclear or the radiologist wanting different views than what was taken. The odds are that you are a-okay!

So rest easy, and be glad that they're so diligent and that technology like this exists.

It's happened to me, too. Sometimes the technician didn't do something right (or could be equipment) and it has to be done over. You have to be positioned just right and the pressure has to be correct. Another time, I felt a peas sized lump after a self exam (insurance paid for unscheduled exam) and it turned out to be a "clogged glan" that discipated on its own.

I have breast cancer and had a radical mastectomy on my right breast. Last year, I had my left breast mammogram. The facility had brand new 3 D equipment. Well, the new machine found something, 'new'. There was a radiologist on site, she ordered a repeat mammogram, she still was puzzled, and then ordered an ultrasound.

I was able to have all of these tests one after another. It turned out to be a benign nodule. If I had to have gone home, and come back for all of those tests-it would've caused a LOT of unnecessary worry.

I also agree that you should be able to have your mammogram and leave with your results.

I will add that they should have private waiting rooms. I was still in my gown, while waiting for the ultrasound. There was another woman in a gown that must have gotten some bad news as she was crying. I really couldn't think of anything to say to comfort her, so I just gave her a hug and quietly asked for a blessing, ( as someone had once done for me-thank you).

I have worked in health care for almost 40 years, and all but 3 have been in women's health. I can tell you with assurance that getting a callback is a very common occurrence. Most likely, for whatever reason, the first films didn't come out clearly. Also, as mineral girl said above, radiologists do not want to mess around with anything having to do with the breast…malpractice issues make them extra careful. Relax and enjoy your New Year, maple! I think you are going to be just fine.

TOTALLY agree with turtle52. I've had "re-do's" my past 2 annual mammos. This year I had the smarts to ask that the re-do be done right there and then. The a second set of pictures were fine. Last year, I had to wait four anxious weeks to learn that I was fine then.

I've had mammograms taken for almost 50 years with no call-back - until a few months ago. I posted on here and got so much encouragement from the ladies that I decided not to worry. It was 11 days until my follow-up appointment with an ultrasound - and the doctor said "something in the first x-rays overlapped" and I was fine. Most of the time, it's nothing. Good Luck!!!

I've had to go back for a pap because the sample wasn't significant enough. They've since changed swab types. The larger the bust the more difficult it is to get the proper views, also any movement could blur the pics, so another pic is called for. I agree that it is better to be safe than sorry on both people's parts.

It does happen but does not mean that you should not follow up. Followup is imperative in this situation as it could be something but it could be nothing, but don't let others discourage you from following up. Your happiness or your life could depend on it.

On 12/31/2014 turtle52 said:
I go to a place where the results are read IMMEDIATELY by a doctor. The doctor comes in with the results before I am even out of my gown. I have not needed additional views but if I did, they would be taken immediately. There is no need for call backs at a later date.

Switching to this type of facility has helped my anxiety tremendously. My mother had BC twice so I am extra fearful of the test and the results. I have mentioned this several times before on these threads. Ladies--do yourself a favor and switch to a facility where you get the results right away. It was one of the smartest decisions I have ever made in my life.

I believe that is what I do when I have a comprehensive mammogram. I was asked to stay in a post-mammogram waiting area, then had several more scans done. My breast tissue is very dense and my age 35 baseline one was unreadable/clear because of this. Now my doctor sends me for a 3-d mammogram. I pay the extra $50 not covered by insurance.
