There were countless notices by the CDC.

And they *are* being taken note of. The doctors I work closely with do not "treat" patients in person for the most part, but they do oversee laboratory tests of every type. I have noted several of them printing out CDC Ebola information to have as it relates to their jobs and sphere of influence.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa could spread to hundreds of thousands more people by the end of January, according to an estimate under development by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that puts one worst-case scenario at 550,000 or more infections.

The report, scheduled to be released next week, was described by two people familiar with its contents who asked to remain anonymous because it isn’t yet public. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-19/ebola-worst-case-scenario-has-more-than-500-000-cases.html

Everything I've heard seems to be pretty much in agreement that it's spread through contact with body fluids and is not airborne. This has been around for years. Too bad nobody has come up with an immunization for it or West Nile Virus (they have one for horses).

It probably isn't politically correct, but I agree on restrictions on people flying in and out of the areas ravaged with this horrible disease. It won't take much to get it started over here in the USA. So now it is being reported that we have a case here in the USA. Isn't that just great?

Very scary stuff.

I have been thinking for weeks that we should quarantine people arriving from infected areas. Supposidly this person in Dallas that has it had no symptons when he left Africa and symptons did not start until after he returned home. If he would have been quarantined, it would have been stopped there. Now he has been out amoung the population and could speread this virus. I certainly don't want there to be a panic caused from one case, but I have a sick feeling that this will not be the only case. I agree with with aprildreams that we can't be concerned with being PC in this case. First and foremost, our citizens need to be protected.

It's insane! There should be ZERO planes allowed to come here from that area. The disease is here, & I don't believe what the CDC is saying for one second.

More people in America will die from the results of Obesity than Ebola.

More people in America will die from the results of Heart Disease than Ebola.

More people in American will die from the results of Cancer than Ebola.

I find it unusual people are getting into a pitched frenzy over something that would very, very, very, very remotely affect them....all the while, they are living with the affects of Heart Disease, Obesity and/or Cancer. It doesn't make sense. Maybe someone needs to 'Ice Bucket' Ebola.

Sidsmom: That may be true, but we must do everything we can to prevent an epidemic here. I'm sure you agree. There is currently no easy cure.

There should be ZERO planes allowed to come here from that area. The disease is here, & I don't believe what the CDC is saying for one second. They tell us NOT to be worried. You've got to be kidding.

In cold climates (ours), its aerosol transmission profile will be like that of the Avian Flu, a disease that spreads by droplets caused by coughing, sneezing or talking. Scientists say that in the tropics the Ebola virus gets desiccated by the heat, damaged by the humidity and sterilized by the sun. It WILL spread here.

Maybe we should have no planes coming from anywhere? Would that work for you?

People don't just come directly from those countries...they could have been in other places too.

There is no way we can "shut down" the USA and keep people out. There is way too much commerce - we are all intertwined now.

I trust the MDs and other experts...NOT you.

Since the patient is in Texas, perhaps we need to ban people from traveling in and out of Texas.

Banning flights is just a political thing and will make the global problem worse. If someone infected wants to come; they'll come. They'll just do a two flight journey and spread the infection into two countries (destination and connecting) instead of one.
