Charles Barkley was just on CNN saying that kind of "whipping" of a child is just the culture of the south and should not be considered domestic abuse. He did say perhaps Peterson went too far (oh, really?) but still condoned it.

In other words a man weighing 250 lbs. and is 6'2" tall should be allowed to pull down his four-year old's pants and whip him to the point of bleeding and it's okay because it's the "culture."

Some of the "cultures" in Africa should then be okay too with this thinking.

ETA: I am referring to the circumcision of girls when they attain puberty. I meant it as a regional issue, not a racial one.

Whipping kids is a Southern tradition. Black or white. I don't know any kids in their 60s or above who WEREN'T whipped with a little switch.

Remember last year?

Adrian Peterson discovered his baby-mama in South Dakota had a boyfriend that beat her son...he was charged. It began TMZ worthy when the baby-mama told Adrian Peterson it was HIS son...his 2-yrold son he wasn't aware he had. The son died.

Fast forward today, Adrian Peterson is abusing his 4-yr son. Ironic, huh?! You would think the impact of his unknown 2yr old last yr would make an impression....but no.

Lots & LOTS of kids. 29 years old & fathered 7 children (TMZ).

I wasn't switched either. I believe his child is only four. I don't have a problem with spanking but when you make marks on a child like he did it is abuse. Little kids can't defend themselves.

You're right there. My mistake.

He also stuffed the boy's mouth with leaves while he was hitting him. This seems to be such a divided issue. I was watching CBS NFL coverage yesterday and heard Charles Barkley basically saying this happens all the time in the south. Boomer Esiason, on the other hand, said he thought Peterson should be banned from the NFL for life. I agree with Boomer on this one. This was a 4-year old child. Unbelievable to me what he did. I also just heard the Vikings are reinstating him today and he will play on Sunday.

This is what I meant when I said where is the outrage. This is a little boy that cant defend himself. What rice did was just as bad but she was an adult. This is even worse then the rice scandel.Peterson should be banned for life.

They play football and some (not all) are pretty much deficient in the brains department. One wonders how they got through college (although not really). It happens everywhere, if one is not good academically, they had better be excellent in sports or they are not going to be seeing any "scholarships" to any college.

That does not make what this man did to his son right or legal. He beat his four year old son with a small limb of a tree!! How disgusting is that...I hope he goes to jail! CPS investigators have to follow all kinds of standards when investigating an alleged child abuse case. Many clues are - age of child, "weapon" used, past history of abuse, how often, what kind of injuries - bruises, break in skin etc. I can almost guarantee that this is not the first time this man has hurt this child! I hope he gets a very strict judge!!

I had not researched the story but he stuffed the child's mouth. Now that is unacceptable and where was the mother. Oh, I forget, that means nothing, some of these women will accept anything of the man is an athlete. This can't be the first time this happened.
