Was it TMZ that released the elevator tape? If they did, good for TMZ. Ray Rice should be in jail. He could have easily killed her, there has been 2 incidents in Illinois where one man was hit by a punch and died. The other incident where a man hit the other man for some really stupid reason is now mentally disabled.

I am not putting Ray's wife down but I would like to say to her, you need to leave this man, this has not been the first time he hit you or it will be the last. Right now I am sure he is furious, I would be afraid.

I just heard that his lawyer had access to this elevator tape from the start - it was part of the items that were going to be used in the criminal trial.

It's about time. The next person who should be let go is the commissioner of the NFL. He saw this tape and still only suspended this low life for 2 games. There are no criminal charges pending. His wife wouldn't press charges and stood up for him when he went to see the commissioner. I hope she gets the help she needs to get far away from him. If she doesn't, it's just a matter of time before he kills her.

With public release of today's video, Roger Goodell's neck was slowly being lowered to the chopping block. He's saving his neck....I would like the League to hold Goodell responsible w/ this on some level. And yes, I'm sure Goodell knew about this video....it's not 'new' evidence.

There's something nagging @ me about this. Yes, he assaulted this woman. But she didn't want to prosecute. AND why did this woman marry this guy AFTER the assault?

The State doesn't like it, the League doesn't like it, the public doesn't like it, but.....the one person who should not like it....doesn't mind. Should we...not mind? Weird.

Woman do this exact same thing hundreds of times throughout this country every day. They go back to the abuser. I made him mad. He was really apolgetic. He said he would not do it again are some of the countless excuses that are made by woman that either fear for their life, or do not know how to stand up to this kind of abuse.

It's hard for us woman who would not tolerated this sort of behavior or have never experienced it to understand.

I have a very low opinion of humankind. I know that sounds harsh. Perhaps I watch way to many crime shows, but the first thing that I thought of was wow!! he is really going to give her a beat down now. I can gurantee you that he will blame her for this not his own actions.

Yes good, but right after the new rule on suspension, the 49'er got to play football Sunday, because the excuse was he hasn't been convicted or charged yet. His girlfriend pregnant I think 10 weeks and he choked her and the bruises were there. This happen at a party in his house.

They needed him for the game Sunday, so no suspension, and the good old boys win, even if the girl's claim is legit. It's money people on this Sunday game. Today in the news, he is being out of the games and I think it said, he will be going to an Oregon team. Also, he did not preform well Sunday.

Women don't stand a chance against these players, because they are not the money makers, just a women and the rules were bent again.

In my 78 years, I've seen it again and again and again, in all walks of employment when the man is involved.

One poster is right, these abuse women go back. I manage to escape with my life in the 60's with three children ages 5, 7, 9. no help, no organizations for women anywhere, you did it with family help or got strong on your own.

Well in the 90's, I joined a group that helped battered woman with resumes, clothes, interviews, etc. Ninety percent went back, and I quit. If they are so low in esteem or like the treatment after they have gotten out and got help, then they made their bed and let the chips fall.

There was no reason except stupidity to go back, everyone was working for them and it made me angry because the women in my day had to put themselves up bythe boot straps to leave. One of my friends couldn't handle it and committed suicide. Sorry for the soap box, but no reason today to take that kind of treatment, maybe his money meant more to her, so she marries him.

There was outcry from women's organizations, who contacted both the commissioner's office and the Ravens organization asking that the punishment be increased, if not by the NFL, then at least by the Ravens. Both did nothing.

There is an excellent column in today's Baltimore Sun with the writer thanking TMZ for doing what no sports network would do - expose the seriousness of Rice's actions. If you can google it, read it. It's excellent.

I read that the only evidence until today was a video of Ray Rice dragging his unconscious wife from the elevator. TMZ received and made public today the actual video from inside the elevator showing Ray Rice beating his wife to a pulp. The NFL has suspended Rice indefinitely.

Please don't chastise Rice's wife for not leaving him or pressing charges. She is the victim, doing what an unfortunate number of victims do.

Update - It was evidence...but they gave him a plea deal instead...he is taking anger management classes!!!!!

He punched her the way one prizefighter brings down another.

I wonder what they were fighting about?

Exactly. Locked away for many years. And the woman who married him after he beat her unconscious should be forced to undergo intensive therapy to help her learn exactly why she would choose to marry such a violent criminal. (And, hopefully also given legal assistance to divorce him immediately, while she is still alive and able to do so.) I sincerely hope they have no children.

Rice rejected a plea offer that would have spared the running back jail time in exchange for completing probation and undergoing anger management. Instead, he pleaded not guilty and applied for a program for first-time offenders that could clear him of charges in as few as six months. The program would require Rice to stay out of trouble and attend regular counseling.

Rice was accepted into the program earlier this week, allowing him to avoid trial.
