I certainly agree with you. Years ago at 5am I awoke and the entire room was spinning. I held on to the bed and wouldnt let go. I thought it would never end. The ambulance was called and I spent the next few days in the hospital. It was an awful feeling. Didn't know what it was until then.

Every now and then I would have just a little bout but nothing serious. Valium takes care of it for and I always hope it would never get that severe again. Good luck to you and hope if it happens to you again that you will be sitting or in bed.

Vertigo is HORRIBLE!! And I pity anyone who has to experience this condition. I have suffered from vertigo for 30 years. As I age though the episodes are much more infrequent...knock on wood!! I was diagnosed with Meneires Disease and BPPV. The first is helped with reduced salt intake and Meclizine. Meclizine by the way can be bought OTC as Dramamine 2. The ingredient in this is Meclizine 25mg, which is exactly what I take. The second condition BPPV can be stopped by a simple exercise called The Epley Maneuver and can be self taught, or ask your Dr for a referral to a Physical Therapist who can teach this to you in a short period of time. Bottom line is there are things you can do about it. And my best wishes to you to get through these episodes as easily and quickly as possible. Number 1 suggestion is to stay as calm as possible! It helps a lot. P.S. try www.webmd.com for more information.

I have found the difference between the two above mentioned is with Meniere's, your dizzy no matter how or where you sit, stand, or move around. BPPV is when you're dizzy when you move your head a certain way...i.e. left makes you dizzy, but turning it right does nothing. That's the bare bones of figuring out what's going on with you. And remember this is my story. There are other things that make us dizzy so please see your doctor.

Bonine (OTC) worked along with physical therapist exercises for a couple of friends. Try 1/2 tablet first. Sometimes that works just as well. Standing, holding onto a chair, and focusing on an object across the room was one of the exercises. Check with your doc and/or pharmacist first.

A dear friend has been suffering with vertigo for the last 3 weeks. Knowing how she's always on the go, I cautioned her to not go out alone in the event an attack should come on suddenly. Within days of telling her that, she texted and said she left Wal-Mart sick that very day, and was so glad her husband had been with her.

Once, when I was hiking on a narrow trail up a mountain, for a moment I felt light headed, felt floating in air, and thought I was going to pass out and fall over the cliff ledge to my certain death. I should not have looked down. Just in a instant I saw a very bright white light in my eyes, and heard a voice in my head tell me that it was not my time to leave this world. It was Jesus telling me that. I quickly retained my footing, and did not fall. Praise Jesus! The power of prayer works miracles. Pray to Jesus, and you too will be cured of vertigo.

I had my first Vertigo episode in January. I was driving to work and I had to pull over. I was about three blocks from work and I tried to pull myself together long enough to get to work. I was sweating, severe nausea, and everything was spinning. I was waiting for the chest pains to start as I was sure I was having a heart attack. I had a co-worker drive me to the nearest Urgent Care. After several tests, they diagnosed me with Vertigo. Gave me some medicine and told me to get an appointment with my doctor. I ended up going to my ENT who said that I had a viral infection in my right ear and he was certain that it had caused the Vertigo. He did a hearing test which showed that I had lost a considerable amount of hearing in that ear. He have me prednisone and said that there really wasn't anything else he could do since it was viral. I have an appointment next week to see him again to see if any of my hearing came back. I'm pretty sure that it hasn't.

While I do still have some hearing loss in that year it's not nearly as bad as it was. Hopefully your hearing will improve as well
