Thanks e everyone. What concerns me is she now has to have the blood test. Wouldn't they be able to tell if it was just a cyst by the ultrasounds.

My mom who is 61 recently was diaganosed with an enlarged overy. They did the ultrasound and found a nodule. They are sending her to get a blood test now. I am so scared. Is there anyway t his is not cancer.

Yes, don't panic until you have a reason too. It could be a cyst. I have had a few ovarian cysts. It aches a bit a throbs but that was about it. I went to the dr and he said it was the size of an egg! He said if it didn't go away (I think some can take about 3 months) he would have to remove it via surgery. It did go away, I think with the fear of surgery I had a moment of self healing. I have had a few since but none recently. I should add they will sometimes try treat them with birth control pills, i did try those but they made me feel sick. If it is cancer, let's hope they caught it early and can treat it! My best wishes to your mom and I hope everything is o.k.

First, good wishes to you and your Mom. All I can do is tell you my story. At age 65 I developed an ovarian cyst the size of a softball. Yes, I could actually feel it. They did laprascopic surgery, took out the cyst and both ovaries, and I was fine. The doctor said it could be from using Clomid to get pregnant 32 years ago.

There are two kinda, the one they do on top of your stomach and the one that do via insertion. I had a weird experience with that: I went in and you have to have a full bladder while they push and prod I thought I would explode! Then you go and pee and then comes the inserting. Well I went in to pee and got my period of all times and places to get it. So the tech had her boss read the first ultra sound (just on top of the tummy one) and I got the all clear that the inserting one wasn't needed. Ithis was about ten years ago and I am guessing things have changed a bit. I wish your mom luck!

All of my daughters get ovarian cysts, two of them quite frequently. They are painful but usually go away on their own. Some of them became quite large. Ironically, I have never had an ovarian cyst myself.

As others have said, the odds are it is a cyst. Try not to worry until you have to.

Please don't panic or worry. The tests are all for dealing with anything that might need addressing. It is not uncommon for a lot of females to get cysts involving their reproductive organs. Presently, I am awaiting a surgery schedule date for a tumor in my uterus which is quite large. It is not cancerous but it should be removed.

With my ultra sounds, one showed a more solid looking cyst, which was of huge concern...the other ovary appeared normal. When I had my surgery to remove, the normal looking one was terribly cystic, and needed removal, the one with solid looking cyst was fine as well, but both, and tubes needed removal. I had an early menop, and had this surgery at 49, Try not to worry.

Ovarian cysts are very common. Chances are that it's a cyst or benign tumor. I had a large ovarian cyst and my daughter had an ovarian cyst removed when she wax just 9 years old. Stay positive and don't worry until you have something to worry about.

I have an ovarian cyst of long standing. When it was initially diagnosed the GYN followed it for a year via ultrasound. Didn't change so he told me it was nothing of concern. Now many years later another GYN is concerned. In the past two years I have had the blood test three times and five ultrasounds--go back in October for another.
