I have checked to see if they could make me switch. And was told I could continue driving my jeep but would have to pay for my own gas. Which would be around $50.00 every two days so I'm stuck Thanks for all the replies they were very helpful

Would love some tips on staying cool in the heat. I am a rural mail carrier and for years have driven my own vehicle. Now the postal service is giving the rural RTS the postal trucks that have no air conditioning.

I'm in Phoenix so know about HEAT. Go to www.mycoolingstore.com for lots of ideas. The products you can freeze and put around your neck are great. We use them when attending the ludicrous first few ASU football games, when it's still way over 100F.

I think that website (and lots of other places) carry portable misting fans. The really bring down the temperature.

If you can, wear one of those cold neck wraps. Having the cold next to the arteries in your neck will help cool you down; same as cold wraps around your wrists. They sell them at HSN but I can't remember the name of the product. QVC used to sell something similar called Cool Downz but I don't know if they still do. Or, just carry a couple of bandanas or cotton scarves & some ice water in a thermos so you can soak the bandanas in the cold water, wring out & wrap around neck/wrists (ever see "Thelma & Louise"?)

(Personally, it would be worth it to ME to pay for it myself). This really makes me angry!

However ..... keep a small cooler in your vehicle.

you can buy battery powered fans. What I mean by batteries is regular ""c"" batteries. These fans are used by campers but I bought a few of them in case our power goes out in the middle of the summer from a bad thunder storm. They are medium size and don't have a pedestal - they are square so it can sit on the floor or seat next to you. Of course buying cold packs that people with neck problems use (I have a few of them) that you keep in your freezer is another option. You can put a towel on your neck then put the cold pack on which fits the neck and you can velcro it in place. There are also cold packs that you can put on your wrists. These three areas on the body help keep you cool. I'm sure there are other things I'm not think about. I think giving you trucks with no a/c is a disgrace. Its not healthy being out in the heat all day like that. I feel sorry for you.

My husband got me these cooling towel things (made by the same company as the ones Susan showed upthread). They might not hold up for a very long time outside when it's 100 degrees, but they help me out a great deal in the house.

The ones I have are 13" wide by 37" long so I can wrap one around my neck twice. You just get it really wet, with cold water, then wring it out and it says to 'snap' it, then just wrap it around your neck - or wherever. It stays cool for quite a while for me and I generate a LOT of heat.

I am no longer able to tolerate being out in the heat, so I haven't tested them out outside. Just a few minutes in heat that's not even 80 and I fade pretty quickly and get sick, due to an auto-immune challenge.

I'm really getting a lot of mileage out of these! He got them at Lowe's. I would be interested in wrist-size ones, though. I wonder where I can find those. I need all the help I can get with the heat. I hate summer so much!
