Wimbledon Anyone?

Love tennis. I think it's really the toughest athletic sport. Sad that Serena Williams lost today. Wow. She lost her 2nd major chance to be in the finals this year. I'm a huge Roger Federer fan, and I still think Fed has one more major win before he retires. More if possible, but he still has that spark to at least win one more. He's such a gentleman and plays tennis with such grace. Love it that he recently became the father of 2 more twins. For sure now he's got enough kids for a great doubles match!

Not sure if there are any tennis fans out there, but these players are amazing athletes and their bodies take a toll the way they play in the conditions they have to play in.

That young lady from France played some incredible tennis!!! Serena is so powerful, but it didn't seem to phase her. What a surprise that match turned out to be.

I agree wholeheartedly about Roger Federer. He is the consummate professional. I'll truly miss him when he decides to retire (which, I expect, won't be long now).

I love Wimbledon!

Yes, I enjoy watching the grand slam events although there are certain women players I refuse to watch because of all the grunting they do!! I love the Williams sisters and am surprised they are still playing. I think it's time for them to stick to doubles and become the female version of the Brian brothers. Most of the women they play against are 10 years younger and I think it's beginning to show.

Love Roger and will miss him when his career is over. Novak has grown on me the past few years now that he is "bouncing" less and other players are doing it more!! Can't stand to watch Nadal with all his "ticks". Looking forward to seeing what happens in the second week.

Tennis fan here too (have been to both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open) and a Serena fan, so sorry to see she lost. I agree that Venus should probably retire from singles and just play doubles now, although I think that Serena is still the number one ranked female player and one of the greats in female tennis, and I hope she still has another grand slam or two she will win in the future. Federer is also one of the greats and I'd also like to see him win another grand slam but I do wonder when he will decide to retire.

I played tennis for 30 years but sadly had to quit the game after I tore my Achilles. I've followed the game for over 40 years...love it! I'm starting to think that Serena may be starting her decline but even when she's not playing her best she is still phenomenal. I'm also a big Federer fan, one of the last elegant one-handed backhanders. And I so agree with castlenv about those grunters. I can't stand those awful sounds and usually mute the TV or change the channel when those grunts start. There had been talk of a ban but I haven't heard much about it recently.

I like to watch Federer's matches so I can see Stefan Edberg in th stands. I miss that elegant serve volley game. It's strange to think that Serena has been playing Wimbledon for 15 years. I remember when Venus started playing at 14 and Serena was the little sister. They both accomplished so much.

I love all your posts. I'm glad I started the thread. I so agree about the grunters. It amazes me how loud they get! Sometimes I think it's a way to distract their opponent. And Nadal, don't get me started. Those ticks are so irritating. I wonder what he would do if he forgot to touch his forehead before his nose!! I've never seen such a thing in sports.

Roger never makes a sound. He doesn't have to. His style, and I love the word "elegance," defines his play. He has always been the kind of player that isn't arrogant or self serving. He always greets his opponents after a win by showing them what an honor it was to play with them. I've read about his many charities and all he does for his fans. He epitomizes the word "sportsman."

Thanks everyone for sharing. I used to play too but developed tendonitis in the wrists (probably from too much computer at work). Enjoy the rest of Wimbledon and wouldn't it be just spectacular to see Roger hold up the cup and kiss it in a few weeks. I would love to see his sweet smile and receive the accolades once again he so deserves.

I've been following tennis since Chris Evert was young. I too am a Roger Federer fan and would love to see him win Wimbledon again. Not a Williams sisters fan - when Serena verbally abused officials at 2 different U.S. Opens, that was it for me. I would like to see Eugenie Bouchard win Wimbledon - she seems to have so much potential and determination. I also think it would be nice if Kivitova could win another Wimbledon. I miss the serve and volley style of play at Wimbledon. If Roger doesn't win, I'd like to see Murray or Djokovic win.

I love tennis, especially Wimbledon. I am a Brit and so this is my favorite tourney! I love Rafa and Roger, Tsonga, Baghdatis, the players who are something special. Serena, no! She's a bad example for the young fans. She maybe good, but her arrogance and manners leave a lot to be desired. Of course though I hope Andy Murray can win again!!

Another long time fan since Borg days. I'm afraid Venus has really declined and was disappointed by Serena's early loss. No American's left after round of 16 which is not promising for our tennis future. Really miss watching Agassi play. I enjoy Federer and especially Nadal despite all his ticks. Today was supposed to be a big day but turned into a rainout with few matches.

Anyone know what the malady was with Serena that caused them to exit their doubles match? She looked so out of it on a clip I saw. She couldn't even catch the ball from the ball boys. I'm not particularly a fan of hers, but I do hope she's OK.

I only have the Nadal match on for noise. I have a hard time watching him with his "habits" before each point. Especially that which pertains to "adjusting" his shorts every time before he serves.

Go Roger!!!!!!!! (Although I wish he wasn't playing against Wawrinka. I really like them both.)
