@goldensrbest 🌸

1st GO with what your poster friends here suggested. See your Primary Dr. and a GI Dr.

I had my sphincter stuck couple years ago and it constantly felt like there was something there when I swallowed.

I did everything the GI Dr told me. Smaller meals throughout the day, Head elevated when sleeping, walking after a meal, no eating or drinking after 7pm, only lying down 3-4 hours after eating, etc etc. Lost 15 lbs and didn’t need to.

GI Dr did an Upper Endoscopy which was all good and prescribed Omeprezole before and after which I was on for 62 days, but it did absolutely nothing to help. He also tried having me on Pantropazole and Famodadine (? Spelling) I couldn’t tolerate them they made me anxious.

My Primary Dr suggested adding Tums before bed.

Stopped the Omeprezole completely and took 3 Tums at night instead. Somehow my sphincter got unstuck and I was fine.

Fast forward 4 months ago (Jan 2026) Acid reflux started up again, but no Sphincter problem. Tried Tums didn’t work. Primary Dr prescribed Omeprezole, but 2 weeks later no improvement. Stopped the Omeprezole and tried Tums again. Still no help but at least I wasn’t on meds, which I don’t like taking.

My husband suggested having some of his yogurt ( I stopped eating Dairy when I got the acid reflux 2 years ago after GI Dr’s suggestion)

I was so frustrated with the acid reflux coming back (minus the Sphincter being stuck) that I decided to try the yogurt !!

I had 6 tablespoons of his Yogurt after dinner that night and it went down good but what surprised Me the MOST was that my Acid Reflux was COMPLETELY GONE and hasn’t come back since !!!! 🤞

I continue to have yogurt (Greek non fat) every single day !!!!!

I noticed a couple posters here mentioning that they have dairy like protein shakes, etc and don’t have their acid reflux anymore

Sooooo I’m thinking until you can get in to see your Primary Dr.

Why don’t you try having some non fat yogurt !!

Can’t hurt to try it right !!

Best of Health to You !! 💕

I have 'acute gastritis' (not severe), and sometimes take Panteprazole prescribed by my doctor. It really helps.

Then there is Omeprazole (over the counter) which is not as helpful as the Panteprazole.

Drinking a glass of milk before bedtime (always) and during the day helps tremendously to cut acid.

In fact, my stomach has been much better lately and I have dropped the Panteprazole for the last month and eat small meals, which is another big help with stomach issues. NO citrus of any kind, too acidic.

Don't use antacids - My brother also has gastritis and his use of antacids ended up with painful kidney stones.

DH suffers with it and is on meds but the doc ssuggested that he use elevate his body from the waist up.
Try eating more protein. A protein shake could even calm it down right away. Sometimes the stomach needs protein to digest to create acid, even though we think it's an abundance of acid causing the problem.

I would see a doctor about that.

What I do to help my acid reflux is to eat a few hours before laying down for bedtime. I go to bed with an empty stomach always. During the day, after eating, I never lay down but only recline. Acid in the esophagus is damaging and can be a cause for some serious issues when it's left untreated.

I went to a researcher doctor who specialized in esophagus problems. Turns out my painful reflux going up into my mouth is because my stomach valve is floppy and doesn't close. And the esophogus muscle nearest that stomach value is also weak.

Educated esophogeal doctors can test your muscle tone during a look with a scope when you are sedated and asleep.

Some GERD medicines give me insomnia (is one of their rare side effects) so I take prilosec which makes me a bit sleepy. And I use good digestive enzymes with every meal.

The surgeries are not recommended as you can't vomit later on and I tend to vomit with pain meds so that is out. Both of my gastros said don't get the reflux surgery unless it is the absolute last course but even then consider carefully as they often have to undo those bands around the top of the stomach where the valve opening is.

I'm sorry to hear about your reflux issues. My daughter has had reflux issues pretty much her whole life. When she was 7 1/2, she had a feeding tube surgery with the fundoplication surgery, she's 27 1/2 now. The fundoplication came undone within 5 years of the surgery. She's been on reflux medication since 2011. The generic form of Prilosec, and now nexium, twice a day. The nexium is a 40mg powder I put in water. She's also on Robinul, generic form, to help with secretions and I think it helps a little with reflux issues too. I helps her out a lot, but I know it doesn't feel good when she brings up her meds or food. That only happens now when she's sick.
