My T-scores of my femoral horns were both below -2.5 when my osteoporosis was discovered. Scores we so low that they were actually off the chart. I had hip pains but I never thought it was related to osteop. Thought it was arthritis actually. But after many years Rx drugs, changes to my diet, exercise ...one of my femur horns is now in the osteopenia range but the other side is still osteoporotic with a T-score of -2.5. Better now than before.

The more I am learning about it the more upset with the medical world I am getting.

Over the past 5 years I have broken both my wrists and both my hips.

According to what I have read I should some begun sort of treatment with the first break. I am going for a mass of blood work Monday and see the doctor next week. Although the dexa scan was an issue it did show Osteoporosis in my left writs, which was my first wrist. I am very interested in the outcome. Just venting. Thoughts are welcome

I had a bone scan in my early 60's which came back at 3.5. My doctor apologized and said that he should have advised the test when I was in my 40's.
I am so sorry that you're going through this. I know that I wished I had known much earlier about the treatments that were available since my doctor said that the treatment wouldn't help me now.

Best to you with your tests.

It's very unfortunate that many women don't even know that they have osteoporosis/osteopenia until they break a bone in an accident like falling most likely. I read that somewhere around 80% of older people have no idea that their bones are thinning.

I had my first bone density test in January. All my t scores came back under .1 except for myright femoral neck at 1.2.

It gave me a probability in TRAX .7 and TBS .4 for a hip fracture. .No medication needed at this point. I now have a better understanding of these numbers. I just went back and looked at my test results. My doctor said I don't need another test for 3-5 years but did mention my bones were thinning. That really helped me so thanks again.

This is an interesting topic for me. Last December, I stood up and my foot rolled off of my sandal. I broke my right foot. I had previously been diagnosed with Osteopenia.

My Endocrinologist said because I broke a bone, I am now a candidate for medication to help stop bone loss. So I went on Actonal 1 X per month. My latest bone density shows no change.

So, I believe you are correct, your Osteoporosis should have been addressed.

There is a good side to getting Reclast. It lowers cholesterol, including LDL, which I have had slightly elevated LDL levels in the past but not high enough to get on meds. I just read that it's the cholesterol-lowering part of Reclast that might be associated with hair loss. I found that interesting.

Hair loss is associated with low HDL and high LDL. Just to be clear.

Hello, sisters in osteoporosis! I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago now after having had osteopenia two years prior to that. My mom had osteoporosis and MS and we have autoimmune in the family. I've taken Prolia successfully for 1.5 years and will get my fourth shot in July 2026 with my next scan next July or so.

I was never a candidate for Fosamax as one of the side effects is the possible progression of Barrett's Esophagus to esophageal cancer ; I also have Barrett's.

Unfortunately, they were unable to use scans of my hips to diagnose osteoporosis as both have been replaced (2004 and 2008; I was only 49 at the time of the first one). Presumably this was all from osteoarthritis but now I wonder if both weren't active agents in the hip replacements.

Thankful that I'm still able to be active, walking 4.5 miles 4-5 times a week and keep up with a 4.5 year old who's still all puppy all the time.

Ive never broken a bone and hope to escape this life without ever having done so. LOL

Hang in there, @I am still oxox . 🙏
