When I had therapy on my shoulder after surgery, the pt department used wonderful, heavy ice packs, nothing I have ever seen that I could purchase...does anyone have suggestions for ice packs that are not the standard style but heavier and that stay cold longer.

I am wondering if the ones at the hospital did not have ice but something else that helped them stay cold for so long.

My experience with my hospital is that they use gel packs. They come in a variety of sizes. Many are made to fit in cloth sleeves you insert them into that way they can go directly on the skin.

I know Amazon had a lot of different sizes and configurations. Some with wrap around straps.

When I had knee surgery I was sent home with ice packs that were heavy and they had gel inside. I bet if you search medical supply stores you can find them. I have 4 of them in my freezer, wish I could give them to you.

I saved the one I was sent home with after rmy meniscus surgery, I still use it directly on the skin. Or I keep it in a plastic freezeer bag. It is wrapped in cloth.

We recently purchased an extra large 'clay cold pack' at Walgreens. It covered the whole lower back. Ahhhh.

Stays cold longer and doesn't prespire because it has a cloth (rather than plastic) covering. It is flexible and conforms to the body. Little pricy, but worth it.

Hope for whaterver reason you are using it gets better soon.

Very soft and last forever. They come in all shapes and sizes and are very reasonable in price. Use them all the time. Highly recommend them.
