I was taking Lovastatin for a while and it barely brought my LDL down plus it caused my A1C to go up above normal which set me up for taking another drug to lower my blood glucose. I had enough of that so I told my doc I was going to take a different approach and change some lifestyle choices...diet and exercise. I stopped the statins one day, cold turkey, when I got my LDL back down and today I don't take drugs for either high LDL or high A1C. Changes in diet and exercising more solved the problem for me.

I would take them maybe for 3 months or so before side effects happened and I stopped cold turkey. Now I was never told by my drs to slowly stop either--and if I had issues never noticed them as the side effects from these drugs was far worse. But---I would be asking my dr about that.
