last year has been...

It started with a UTI that tried to kill me. I ended up in the ICU...which I hated but I must admit was entertaining when the old man who sounded like Grandpa Simpson started yelling something unintelligible and the cops showed up a while later,,,I don't know if the two incidents were connected but they sure were funny.

But it wasn't so funny when the UTI got so bad they put me in the ICU. The nurses were and very kind and understaning about my embarassment when they took all my clothes off and literally hosed me down...and they had to do this several times.

Right now I'm doing a little better but I'm bothered by the fact I can't show my arms--they look pretty beat up (I've had other medical "issues"). And people can be so rude: I've had complete strangers ask me about them. I usually tell them I was in a car accident and that shuts them down pretty quickly. But sometimes I'm really astounded by how rude/unthinking people can be.

Getting close to death is a humbling and frightening experience.

Happy you are feeling better @GoneButNotForgotten . Being sick is not for sissy's! I know what you mean regarding people's remarks. After having chemo many years ago now, I was left with a pretty bad port scar and I was astonished at times what people would say to me. If they asked what happen I would simply reply "cancer" and like you said, that usually shut them up. I did have the scar revised by a plastic surgeon and today it is hardly noticable. Being right on the decollete it was hard to cover up.

My dear sister had a UTI for months, she was given antibiotics, none of which helped her.

It wasn't until I found her on the floor of our hallway, she was incoherent. I called paramedics and when she was stabilized and several test was done that the doctors found she was given the wrong antibiotics. She suffered for months.
She needed an antibiotic which can only be administered by a physician in a hospital.

I'm so glad you're doing better, and your arms, forget about it. Rude people don't deserve a response. You owe them nothing.

@GoneButNotForgotten UTIs can be challenging. Glad you are on the road to recovery and were able to go thru the experience with a sense of humor.

Isn't that true with most antibiotics, maybe I am missing something here

You are. I've had tons of antibiotics and I don't remember any of them being injected or administred by/in a hospital.

All antibiotics get prescribed by a doctor but there are some that you get by IV for a UTI so you have to be admitted which is what she was talking about.

@GoneButNotForgotten been through similar times over several not 1 in particular 13 abdominal surgeries and a stroke put me in icu several times things happen in life over which we have no control and it is best to learn from them and look forward wish you good things moving forward

You misread it, it was very clear "which can only be administered by a physician in a hospital"

@GoneButNotForgotten Glad you are doing better now. Not an easy thing to go through. My arms don't look so good either. I wear mostly long sleeves that can be rolled up or pulled up.
