going to see a new dr today

And why do I post about this rather medicore event??? Welllll......one reason is----I called this morning and got an appt TODAY !!!!!!

Then the office is about a 15 minute walk from my apt. This is a new dr to me--- and a skin dr to boot----I guess I am amazed at all this because usually it takes 2-3 months for an appt with almost any medical doctor these days. So---hopefully it won't be a witch doctor or a voodoo priestess------booga-booga

You must feel like you won the lottery!

The reasons may be as described in an article about dermatologists that I read recently from a major paper. It seems that for several years it has been a popular specialization. One reason is that there are few dermatological emergencies, so the doctors can work regular business hours or even four days a week if they want. They also have the option of making money by offering cosmetic procedures that are not covered by insurance, so they can charge whatever the market will bear for those. The result has been more dermatologists being turned out than some other specialists.

WOW, You hit the lottery. In my area there is a 6 to 8 month wait to see a derm.

I needed two cysts removed from my scalp...my PCP said even he couldn't get me an earlier appointment.

He set me up with a general surgeon who likes to work with skin issues. I only had a two week wait.

I prefer the work by a derm or plastic surgeon, but at least it is done. He blobbed a big mound of surgical glue on my scalp and hair. Tomorrow is three weeks and the big blue glob is still there. It's supposed to wear away.

I won't allow surgical glue on my my scalp again. He said use Vaseline to remove it, but I know Vaseline does not wash out of your hair. I might try peanut butter. I only have crunchy. Ha!

@Bookplate. They can also get somebody to develop a line of skin care for them, put their name on it, go sell it on TV and get filthy rich.

I would be miserable not being able to get the glue off.

Hope you find something that works.

I had stitches on my gums that felt tight. One stitch popped. It felt so much better.

It says online you can use things like Silicone based adhesive products like Goo Gone or Acetone, Coconut oil, Olive oil, Baby oil, Rubbing Alcohol, Vinegar, Mayo, Clarifying shampoo, conditioner.

People, if you have any influence over a smart ambitious young person...persuade them to go to school to be a dermatogist. I worked for a mid-sized Medical Group and the dermatologist had it the best out of all the physicians.

made more money due to the type of procedures, and number of in-office procedures that can be done in one day unlike a surgeon who can do 3 max regular safely.
when non'-insured botox and the like came on the scene, the self-pay bucks roll in ...vanity cha-ching
made more money than the most senior OBGYN who delivered human beings lol
no call,
No emergencies
no rounds at the hospital
Make their schedule any way they wanted and could take vacation any time they wanted because no one covered them and no emergencie in derm thwt a PA or ARNP couldnt do.

WHat a life reward for being smart and working hard at school

@pdlinda I almost included Reviews, but I take some with a grain of salt. Some are valid, of course, but often people post unfavorable reviews based on trivia or lack of medical insight. It's fine to check out Reviews as long as you try to evaluate the reviewer at the same time.

That seems kind of traumatic. Were cysts in the back where you lay down. Thought your area would have alot more Derms. but it's hard to see any specialist any place. They have a Derm group in my area where you see the NP and if you have to Dr does the minor surgeries.

my dh had two concerns and can't get in until end of April! Go figure, we see them once a year for years!

@Nightowlz I have tried shampoo and conditioner. The glue has lifted in some places, but is still stuck on and my hair is entwined in it. He applied a large glob of it and it's not flat. It looks like a hunk of blue bubble gum in my hair.

I know acetone and other strong chemicles will dissolve it, but I don't want that in my hair...also it could burn a healing wound.

I have used peanut butter to remove chewing gum from hair from many kids and I know it dissolves the gum immediately.

I hope it works on surgical glue too. I am going to try tomorrow. If it doesn't work, I'll try Olive oil too. Keeping my fingers crossed.
