Can anyone comment on an implant? I have loud tinnitus in an almost deaf ear but the proceedure scares me. I understand it takes about a year to adjust and the hearing aids are rechargable. I have a hearing aid and I like batteries as they last as long as I need. Thanks , as this is such a decision for me. Professionals aren't the most helpful

I have bad hearing and used to have bad tinnitus too, @matty liz. I have been wearing hearing aids for many years. Mine were always the battery type but my current ones are rechargeable and I love them. In the beginning, hearing aids would mask the ringing, but when I took them out at bedtime it was hard to ignore it when trying to get to sleep. At times it was maddening. I'd have to fall asleep to the tv and DH would turn it off at some point. I know some here may give me a side eye, but I'm telling the truth. When I changed the way I ate, getting off sugars and grains, my tinnitus went away. One day I just noticed it was gone. The same thing happened to my niece.

Regarding a cochlear implant, it's a huge step. It used to be that the process included removing all natural hearing. The process has improved so now residual hearing remains. I can see being concerned. I met someone a couple of years ago who was given a new opportunity to hear again and she loved her CI's. I can't say I'd ever rule it out completely. If I knew I would be able to hear, I'd seriously consider it.

Know someone well who had hearing loss quite young and wore hearing aids for yrs. She had her cochlear implant surgery in Philadelphia along with the follow up care . She has done quite well over the last 5 yrs and it has improved on her quality of life.

Jean, what a blessing you are to me. People don't understand us hearing this sound. It can't be heard by others and doesn't show on exray. Thank you for knowing. Ill admitt to a sugar habit, I will follow your suggestion. Please accept my love.

A good friiend just had his done a week before Christmas and is doing VERY well. He is hearing sounds and voices he has not heard in the past few years. So far so good and he is very pleased. So is his wife!

If a cochlear implant is what my doctor has, he's doing great. I know nothing about that but I wish you well on your decision. I'd hate to have that constant ringing in my ears. I'll hope for a great outcome for you.

Everything is more difficult without that special person to talk to anymore. I still have a hard time with many small decisions, let alone something like you're contemplating.
