Very weird doctor question

I have an appointment tomorrow morning with a general surgeon. This practice was recommended by my PCP and they are all in the same health system.

I have two Pilar cysts on my scalp that need removed. I have had maybe 18 to 20 removed in my lifetime, so this isn't my first rodeo.

The doctor who removed them in the past is now deceased, so I need a new doctor.

I got a request to "check in" for my appointment today. This is common and I do it all of the time. The check in asked about insurance and if I have been out of the county and if I take any meds. All standard stuff...same questions as always asked during the check in.

This time there was a question asking if I was sexually active. I tried to skip the question, but it wouldn't allow me to. Then it asked if my preferred partner/s were male or female or both.

Let's just say I was taken aback. I don't understand why these questions were needed and if they are needed for some surgeries why the question wasn't asked in the office.

Scheech....all this to have cysts removed from my scalp. I can't wait to hear the doctor's answer when I confront him. I feel it is an unnecessary and invasive question to ask on a routine " check in" on line.

Anyone else run into this?

No...at least, not yet. I would find that kinda "strange" too. The ONLY thing I have ever been asked was "are you pregnant"...AS IF THEY COULDN'T TELL BY LOOKING AT MY FACE...

I have not seen that question but I think it is a general questions. Because of s--xual transmitted diseases. I do not think the forms have an age limit

I've seen that question several times along with asking about your "born gender " and gender with which you "Identify". Not a strange question at all.

This question has been on my medical update forms at my doctor's office for years.

It is what it is, doesn't bother me...........last time I wrote "so so" for my answer......LOL.

I have seen Dr Pimple Popper on TLC remove these kinds of cysts many times, she does it in her office only using numbing agent right at the spot and the patient is wide awake. Dr Sandra Lee.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise in the U.S., so I don't think this was a very weird question.

Last year my Rheumatologist was prescribing a med for me and first I had to get a blood test to confirm I don't have tuberculosis. (This was a new one for me).

As for "check ins" online ... unless this would be a new MD or practice, I never fill them out, and it doesn't seem to matter when I arrive. lol

Stranger things have happened.

Last year I read about a 68 year old woman who was going to carry her daughter's fertilized eggs to term because the daughter kept miscarrying.

She delivered a healthy baby girl that was both her biological daughter AND granddaughter!

@Carmie -- I have never been asked that question although my new PCP indicated that he would be open to questions related to sexuality. I also never check in online as I have serious concerns about putting that info out in cyberspace. And ... I have never been challenged or questioned about it. I simply supply that info at the time of my appointment, either verbally or by filling out a form. I realize that all medical offices use the net to communicate but I feel like I have decreased the information sharing by one link.

My check-in form includes asking how I identify, but I've never been asked about my "love life".

My hairdresser had to see a urologist and during the exam he asked her if she had multiple partners and she said, no I'm married. He then replied that doesn't always matter to some people.

He then asked her if she and her husband had an active "love life" and she replied "well we're both almost 60 so it's not all that active. She said he just laughed.

The question that always made me laugh is when I'm asked " what was the date you began your first period. At my age, do they really expect me to remember? I've also been asked is there any chance you could be pregnant. Just like another poster stated, I always want to say, just look at me. Do you think at my age I could be pregnant.
