Nothing else works for me. I have no side effects, but I sometimes wake up during night and have a hard time falling back to sleep. Don't know if I'm addicted, but PCP says he doesn't care if I'm addicted or not at my age. Our brains tend to work overtime with worries as we age, so relaxing and getting a good night's sleep are important.

I take an over the counter sleep aid. I'm currently using the Costco Kirkland brand and I've also purchased the generic Walmart brand. The pill is 25mg and I break them in half. I don't wake up groggy but I do sleep soundly. The small amount take the edge off when my mind is still wide awake. You can also try Melatonin which is a natural product.

If your husband isn't used to sleeping pills, whatever brand you buy have him start with a half a pill on a weekend evening to see how his body handles it.

I'm really sensitive to sleeping pills and so only take a half dose of Unisom if I can't sleep. It puts me out for about nine hours.

Stay away from any containing dipenhydramine since it's been shown to be a factor in dementia.

I don't know how you feel about CBD if your state has legalized it, but it can be used also.

Will he be going to see the doc soon? I seem to remember you talking about his ears and it not being wax. Wishing him well!

I take a magnesium supp. It's not exactly a sleep aid but it helps relax the mind and body so falling and staying asleep is better. Magnesium is one of the minerals that can actually cross the blood-brain barrier.

Hi @Mom2Dogs

I have a somewhat different take. My husband had the same issue but he used Arm & Hammer Simply Saline Nasal Care spray--pretty cheap. It made his nose run like crazy but it helped his ears. He really alleviated the pressure in his head. My husband has bad allergies too and is unable to take a lot of OTC meds due to medical issues.

For myself for sleep, I use a magnesium supplement and I also take a tulsi (holybasil) supplement. I hope your husband finds relief soon.
