I go every six weeks for nail care. I have been going to the doctor for about 10 months. The last two visits she suggested that I would benefit by seeing someone else and she named the person. One of the people would even come to my home for the visit. I don't know if she wants to get rid of me or just trying to be helpful in suggesting somebody else could help me . What do you think?

@Alsace Gal Just my guess...it's useless to call his office and ask them why they made that suggestion that she go elsewhere because they will likely just answer in a "benign" fashion essentially avoiding any "confrontation."

To me, she's better off accepting the suggestion of the home provider or going to another office because what this doctor did to her was dismissive and I wouldn't ever return to that office.

@panda1234 I think the only thing to think is that you need to get someone else and let the reason go unasnwered. For whatever reason, you need to get somebody else. . . I hope you love the new person!

If she provided a name of another doctor for you to see then she obviously had some specific reason for you to be seen by someone else. She is a podiatrist and she referred you to another podiatrist, is that correct? Or did she refer you to a general practitioner?

Having been the rounds of podiatrists for both myself and my mom I know it is not uncommon to be referred to another podiatrist or another foot-and-ankle doctor for specific kinds of evaluations and treatment.

My podiatrist doesn't do x-rays for instance. For that I must go to a different clinic.

Podiatry visits are sometimes paid by Medicare and insurance could be another reason why she suggested you be seen by someone else or be seen at home.

I would call the office and ask that they look up your medical record and see why you were referred to another doctor. If you have a MyChart record you can also look up your chart online to see if there are any notes or recommendations.

Here there is only 1 and she should apply for a job as a pedicurest!...I have a chronic wound on my foot almost 6 yrs( almost lost my foot due to a rare infection)..So I go every 3 months.

She rarely touches it ..told the nurse my pain level was 5...the dr. never looks at the computer..trims my nails and callouses then heads for the door..(It must be lunchtime for her !!!)..

AWhile back I called the head of the dept. and told him..nothing has changed...I came home and did my own wound care and cut myself!..

Everytime I go I'm hoping she will be gone..I've had 4 different ones in nearly 6 yrs. Dr.s here leave like flies..The next closest one is 76 miles away.

Wish I could get paid to do my own wound care!

My Mom had a podiatrist come to her house for many years, every 3 months, Medicare paid for it.

I am guessing here, so this is a maybe. A podiatrist takes care of many foot issues. Some are quite serious.

Getting your nails trimmed is not serious, but very necessary, especially if you're diabetic.

Perhaps she wants to handle more serious issues and has an overload of patients who need to see her. She might want to have someone tend to the less serious issues so she can spend more time with those who need help with more advanced medical issues.

One way to do this is to refer you to another person who can help you and in turn help her and her other patients as well.

Humana sends someone to my home for a Pedi every 6 weeks!

Don't have a foot problem, just policy! It's nice though!

@panda1234 I think @Carmie probably is right.

If you really like the doctor make another appointment & during the appointment ask her if there is a reason she suggested you see someone else.

It could be for your own convenience & you can continue to see her if you like.

If she thinks someone else would be a better fit for you, then she is also doing her job to care for you.

If you don't ask her why she is recommending another person you'll never know the reasoning behind her suggestion.

JMO, podiatrists while they have their place, are scammers looking to make an extra payment or two from Medicare by suggesting unnecessary testing and treatments.

@CelticCrafter Not the podiatrist I go to. He has never made me get any tests or treatments. He did ankle/heel surgery on me and I only go when it's something major.

My late father was his first patient when he stared the practice. He had polio at age 6 months and both feet were mangled and crippled. His legs were as skinny as broom sticks.

Every time I visit...I take my friend in for service, he tells me that he misses my father.

Now his only child, a son,has followed in his footsteps and is a podiatrist too in practice with his father.

What kind of testing and treatments would a podiatrist want to do that were unnecessary?

I feel sure the provider made the recommendation because you qualify for an in home basic care service. Being able to provide quality care at home is beneficial to you and frees up the appointment schedule for patients who actually need/must to come to the office. Your provider is trying to make this easier for you!

Perhaps I missed it, but how much and how many appointments per year are paid for by your insurance or Medicare?

Are they paying for an appointment every six weeks?

@RedTop That makes a lot of sense. My only comment is why she couldn't have conveyed that very simple message to the poster.

I had a situation with my pelvic floor physical therapist a few months ago. I completed a round of appts and since I have a prolapse, I thought I could schedule ongoing appts for "status" every few months. The PT made of point of saying that Medicare is closely scrutinizing the facility's records and suggested that my course of therapy was over.

I have a PPO and KNOW that my insurance will provide as many PT appts as my doctor authorizes. I don't need a referral.

If I ever wish to continue Pelvic Floor PT I won't be returning to that provider.

Based on the multiple providers I have dealt with thru the years, especially thru the VA, my response as to why the provider has suggested someone else, particularly the way she did, is because she can't exactly come out and say "the reimbursement we receive from the service we provide at your visit is best handled by an in home provider, so our providers can see more medical needs patients for higher reimbursement". I do feel that's the rest of the story.
