I just got top and bottom partials yesterday and I'm so disappointed that I could cry. First thing, I don't think the "fake" teeth look anything like my other teeth. I have rather large teeth and the fake teeth are small. Second, I had no idea the partials had to "clip on" to my other teeth. I though you put some Polygrip on them and that adheres them to the gums. I don't think I have the patience to clip these things in everyday. I paid a small fortune for these so any words of wisdom would help. Thank you.

Didn't you have a fitting with a wax partial? Even now the dentist should be willing to put larger teeth in that you will be more comfortable and happier with. I have one and just got a new one to replace it and I had a chance to let the dentist know if I was happy with the look of the teeth or not. I only take mine out to soak and clean daily so they are in all the time. Once you get used to the way you have to put them in and take them out it is no big deal.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I have an upper partial and did not want the anchors on my other teeth. I felt that the pressure could affect my other teeth. I have had this partial for probably 20 years. A friend of mine did get a full set of dentures. They made them from the molds of her own teeth, imperfections and all. They look so natural, as most false teeth tend to be so perfect. If you have your dental impressions, please consider having your partials made to match. Good luck to you.

I didn't have a fitting of the molds prior to getting the real plates. And yesterday the dentist put them in and that was it. They didn't have a mirror so I could see how they look. I saw them once I got into my truck and I as disappointed. The teeth are small and looks strange next to my real teeth which are big. And then I see that the clip on wire is very visable. Plus the bottom plates hurt. They rub on my gums. I'm so upset.

Go back to the Dentist and let him know you are unhappy. Dentures should NEVER hurt! Also, I took a picture of me so the lab person could see and match my natural teeth. It worked! One of my front ones is slightly askew which makes them look more natural. You deserve to be happy with what you purchase. If the Dentist does not fix the problem, you can report him and get him in a lot of trouble. They are regulated like Doctors are.

If you aren't happy with your teeth, if you don't like the way they look, if they don't feel right; TAKE them back to the dentist and have them fix them. I do have an upper partial and every time I get a new one (about every 10 years), I have to take them back to my dentist for adjustments. Partials today do not need an adhesive, if they fit correctly. It does take a bit of time to get accustomed to them but they should not slip or move and you should be able to eat everything. I've had several partials over the years, made by different dentists and they always match the color of my partial to the color of my real teeth. They should look like your teeth, just better, because the mold was made from your teeth. At any rate, do not feel shy about going back. I would say that most people who have false teeth, partial or complete, take new ones back back for a little "work". Sometimes the dentist can do it in the office, sometimes they have to send them back to the lab. But it can be done. As for how you put them in, you just need to give it time. It's just a new thing for you.

I can't imagine they didn't give you a mirror to make sure you liked the way they looked. I've had mine for over 30 years and this is the 3rd partial replacement I've had and each time they did one with wax teeth to make sure the partial was a good fit and to see if I liked the teeth. The 2nd one I had I wasn't happy with one of the teeth and they replaced the tooth for me. Keep going back until you are completely satisfied.

Hi--I work as a dental asst. & I've seen many patients with a full or partial denture. First the dentist will do an impression which is a mold of your teeth before extractions are done. This also will take the mold & shape of your teeth. They will also match the color of your teeth with a chart of different colors. If you have some natural teeth which is probably what you do have, he can also do a flexible denture which is called Valplast. There are no clips to hold onto your teeth. It is pink plastic like material which holds in place using your natural teeth to hold onto. There are no visible metal clasps. If you are not happy with the work that is done you should go back to your dentist. Most dentists will want to make the patient happy so they should fix the problem. Maybe your dentist didn't explain it clearly or perhaps you didn't quite understand which is totally normal. Most people unless they are in the field don't understand dental procedures until they are explained once or twice. A good fitting denture won't require any Polygrip. Every few years you may have to get an adjustment as your gums sometimes shrink & change. I hope you will call your dentist back to give him a chance to make the situation right for you. Good luck with everything. Kat

Thanks everyone! I feel so much better now. I just want to clear something up. I don't think I worded my previous post correctly. The dentist did make molds. But I never got to see them. I had no idea how the finished product would look until I got them yesterday. I suppose a lot of this is my fault for not researching this beforehand. The good news is my dentist and his staff are very nice. I'm sure he will help me. I just hate that I didn't do any research on this. Thanks again to all if you. I was in tears this morning but you've all made me feel better.

You are lucky your teeth just look too small. Many years ago -- about 50 in fact -- I had to have all my teeth capped and partials also. The teeth were bigger than my original teeth -- suppose they had to be for the caps to fit over the natural teeth but my mouth always felt like it could not close all the way and was very uncomfortable and made me nervious. Also some of the guys where I worked kept laughing at my huge teeth.

Years later, I had to have it redone and at least they were smaller by then and more comfortable.

Now of course I have a full upper set of false teeth and they want to do implants and a full bottom set. Not sure how I can eat during this process so I am not having it done wrigh now.

Kat

Stormy - Do you know if partials have to be attached to surrounding teeth? I had a fitting about one year ago with a preliminary partial and I hated the metal tab showing right up on my front teeth!! I asked why it wasn't the color of my teeth to blend in and the dentist said that they don't do that and the only other color (instead of metal) was pink!?! I haven't been back since although I paid for the partial. What are the options? Thanks, Gail
