My doctor sent me to a pulmonoary doctor because my ct scan still not clear from pneumonia from March. He coldly said I have lung fibrosis and 3-5 provided I haven't had for years. Quite a shock. Anyone familiar with this. No cure. Thanks for listening

That must have been shocking to you, so sorry you are going through this. And what sounds like not a caring doctor.

What is the 3 - 5 mean?

A very shocking diagnosis from a doctor with no bedside manner, I would seek the opinion of a different doctor.

@grandme how upsetting! You might consider getting a second opinion. My mother had pulmonary fibrosis. It was localized to one main part of one lung, and they removed that part--about a third of one lung. It never affected her, and she lived to the ripe old age of 93 dying from old age.

Sorry to hear this; plus your pulmonologist sounds like a d**k. Can you consult another specialist? Even if the diagnosis is the same you may have a more informed and sympathetic dialogue with them.

IMO, MRI discoveries are oftentimes a shock. You aren't alone in that, I had a surprise diagnosis this year too. Try to remain calm and positive. Be glad it was found now and take control of your own health by finding a better doctor to work with and do whatever is needed to get it taken care of.

This sounds like a heart doctor I just started with a few months ago. I want a smart doctor but a doctor with good bedside manners, to me, is just as important.

I'm sorry for what you are going through. It must have come as quite a shock. Like others have said, I'd be looking for a more caring doctor.

Sounds like the pulmonary doctor delivered a typical straightforward textbook diagnosis about pulmonary fibrosis. The words he used are factual, but those are not necessarily the exact words that pertain to you until you are tested and a specific diagnosis comes from your results. You need to find a caring, compassionate provider to guide, and help you hold on to your lung function thru treatments such as meds, breathing treatments, oxygen, etc.

I send my prayers and good wishes for you to find the right pulmonary specialist to help you in the days ahead. Stay strong and determined!

Oh my goodness. I didn't even know if that was possible. I am not giving up. I am 78 but was wanting to go to 90. lol. I have 7 grandchildren 1 stepgrandson and 8 great-grandchildren. I have a lot to live for. I am trying to stay positive. I read this blog everyday. I haven't posted in years but I have gained so much information from this blog. I love it and all of you. God Bless

@grandme Praying for you. Please keep in mind that the prognosis in years that physicians might mention is NOT written in stone, or applies to everyone. There are so many new treatments being tested every day. You should make a point to come back here every year for the next 20+ years - or more! - to remind us all of that fact! {{Hugs to you}}

@grandme So sorry to hear you were not treated with compassion, kindness, and empathy not to mention a smidgen of hope. God forbid someday he may end up in the same situation, hopefully he has a better Doctor than he was to you. Don't give up or give in to what he said or where you are right now. My MIL was diagnosed with metastaic lung cancer 7 years ago. Her Doctor at that time told her to get her affairs in order. I told her to get a second opinion. Her next Doctor told her we are going to try this treatment that is specific for skin cancer, but what do we have to lose? He did, and she is still here 7 years later. I think she is at the end stage now though as it has spread to her other lung and her liver. The point is, don't give up, pray and pray some more, and stay in faith. Will be praying for you. @grandme I am so very sorry that you received such bad news and in such a compassionless manner! A second opinion is definitely warranted and hopefully, a more compassionate doctor who can actually show empathy and caring...keeping you in my prayers. ❤️
