Sharps Container

I do weekly infusions for my immune issues. While I am away I am using a sharps container for the needles. How do I dispose of it, I have never used one before. Thanks all

Actually the pharmacy said to throw it out, so I will will recycle it since its plastic

Go to the town you are in. Go to their sanitation page. Some items have to brought to the e-waste complex. Just because it is plastic does not mean it can be thrown out with other plastic items.

There is no e waste complex in my town.

Oxox, we no longer have anywhere to dispose of a sharps container here, out hospital changed hands and I guess it was dropped with their cost cutting. I use a liquid detergent bottle and to save space I put only the needle into it if that is possible. I then tape it shut, taping over the screw on cap and then label "Hazardous - Contains Sharps". We turn it in at one of the periodic drug take back sites. I have yet to find a physician or medical facility here that will take them.

Put the sharps container in the regular trash. Do not recycle.

Put a label on the container.

I return my full sharps container to Walgreens. They then give me an empty container.

I called the pharmacists to ask if they take sharps back and she said no, that you can put it in the recycle bin ---she said to tape up the lid well. I was surprised to say the least. can take it to a diposal place too but I can't get there.

In my area of WV, we label the container "SHARPS" "DO NOT RECYCLE", and set on top of our regular trash for pickup.

In my county (Sarasota County) we can take the sharps container to the Health Department and they give you an empty one.

I use to work for a medical waste removal company. They had a service to pick up sharps containers. You are not permitted to throw them in the trash. I found a site called SafeNeedle Disposal.org. You enter your zip code and will give you places to dispose them. You could ask your hotel what trash removal service they use and call them.

Hopefully you have found a place to dispose of the sharps and will be recycling an empty container.
