Dry Eye

I have had dry eye for many years, I have tried a myriad of medications including prescription and OTC. This morning I started on Cequa a stronger version of Restasis. After all these years I am hoping for some resolution to this annoying issue. I have been tested for sjrogens but always tested negative which might be caused by my immune issues

Had them at least 5 years ago they did not work but thanks for the suggestion.

Please keep us posted on the results you have with these drops. My doctor prescribed them but my insurance won't cover them. I've been balking at paying the over $500 out of pocket for them.

Have you tried Tyrvaya? It is a nasal spray for dry eye that has helped me.

My doctor tells me that my dry eye is a direct result of thyroid issues and I see the correlation (no pun intended). My dry eye is much worse at the times my thyroid numbers are most out of whack.

My dry eyes were caused from an electrolyte imbalance but after I got that taken care of, it went away. I also had dry mouth and terribly dry skin, too. Now it's all fine.

I have dry eyes due to Sjogrens. Currently, I've been using Fluoromethelone drops, it has really helped.

My opthomalogist is suggesting I have my tear ducts cauterized.

I had my blood tested b/c my doctor suspected dehydration. My potassium came back normal but it was at the very bottom of normal. Doc didn't think much of it. I also kept a food journal for two weeks which included all the food nutrition facts. Turned out I was severely lacking potassium in my diet so I started taking a potassium supp. It has been over a year ago since I started that supp and I'm doing very well. My last set of blood test results all came back normal but this time my potassium was right in the middle of the range.

The nasal spray made my flare, my doc was not keen on it but I wanted to try it and it did not react well for me

I do not have Sjorgens but I have an immune issue so my tests might be skewed I need to see my doc when I get back to NY

You're welcome.

I think what all started this was my severe constipation. I was taking a lot of laxatives/softeners to alleviate the problem but in the process I caused the dehydration. Constipation is also another symptom of low potassium and taking laxatives exacerbated the imbalance to get even worse. After taking the potassium, the constipation went away!

There is a therapeutic "contact lens" that is worn for 3-5 days that might be an option for some of you. It is called Prokera. It is covered by most insurance when medically necessary.

I was a long term contact lens wearer until my cataract surgery in 2022. In my late 50's I started having trouble with eye dryness, most probably due to menopausal symptoms.

I had to have bi-lateral cataract surgery because I could no longer see out of my right eye. Cataract surgery is known for causing dryness in the eyes. Despite living in southeast Florida where there is plenty of humidity, the dryness persists. I'm in air conditioning the majority of the time. I've talked a great deal to my surgeon about this, but I'm not going to spend $$ on drops, sprays, procedures, or heated masks.

Not to offend anyone, but I'm sticking with what works for me and costs nothing...a washcloth moistened in hot/warm water over the eyes works wonders. Helps itching, dryness, burning...

I have Sjogrens as well. I went from Restasis to Cequa. Cequa does nothing for my dry eyes. I use Systane Complete during the day and Restasis at night. I do have plugs in my tear ducts. Best of luck to all. It's a miserable condition.

I am so sorry. I never knew what dry eye disease was until I had it myself. I have been dealing with this for almost 2 years now, since having COVID. I have the evaporative type. The tears I do make are of poor quality. I have tried many RX drops and almost all over the counter ones too. I keep my eyes clean, apply heat, and do regular eye massages, and every other thing that so far my doctors have recommended that I do. I am presently using a steroid drop, which I think someone else has already referred to, and I have to agree, that medication does seem to help more than anything else, as I do have an inflammatory type of dry eye disease. I have also recently been prescribed scelera hard lenses. I am still in the tolerance stage, and I am very much hoping I can adjust and wear them. The one thing I have learned already is that this is a very hard disease to manage. If you don't have it, then you have no idea what the ones who do go through....I guess that is like any other disease or disorder... It has certainly not been a quick fix or an easy fix for me. It has been a tremendous adjustment for me, as I am in constant pain, and I still have to work and carry on with the rest of "Life." I also have another auto-immune disorder, and there is not much I can do to get relief from that either. So far I have not tested posted for sjogren's disease. As far as treatment and relief, I am sure everyone is different, so what helps someone else may not be right for you or me. I sincerely wish you the best of luck as you find the BEST treatment for YOU.

Started on Cequa this morning, I am giving it a fair shot I have two months worth and I will see what happens

Some people take meds that can cause dry eye and never make the connection.
