@on the bay There are many things that occur during surgery that impact you after the procedure is done and rehab begins.

The positions and maneuverings the surgeon makes during surgery to successfully address what the problem is sometimes causes other conditions to appear. Also, prior surgeries near the incision sight might also interact to cause problems.

The skill and talent of the surgeon certainly comes into play.

I had 3 joints replaced. Two hips and one knee. Both the hips were done with different procedures. I had 3 separate surgeons. My knee was replaced last, in 2019 (right before COVID). Since that surgery (although it was a TOTAL SUCCESS) I've never been able to walk "normally" despite many PT sessions.

It turns out that when I had my hip replaced on that side in 2017, a condition developed called Valgus. It creates a "bow-legged"deformity that I found very noticeable. When my knee became "bone on bone" from arthritis, the knee surgeon mentioned that he could correct the valgus, but not 100%. He was an excellent surgeon but 4 yrs later, although I can walk unassisted and the obvious "knock-kneed" deformity is gone to a great degree, there's still some curvature there impacts my gait. From what I gather, there is nothing I can do at this point to walk the way I did before 2019 even though the surgery was a success.

Shortness of breath and shoulder pain are my two biggest complaints this far out after heart surgery. The nurse told me that shoulder pain is the biggest complaint post surgery. If this has been your experience, how long did your shoulder pain last? I know the shortness of breath can last for months but this shoulder pain is unbearable.
