I know there have been quite a few threads about weight loss recently (mainly about Ozempic) and I’m curious what you all practice to lose or maintain your weight. I’ve read some use low-carb or keto. What do you find effective?

I eat between 1200 and 1300 calories every day except for one. I have a cheat day one day a week where I pretty much eat whatever I want. I power walk 3 days a week and do core strengthening exercises daily. I am 5'6, and this routine keeps me at my goal weight of 130--Only 5 pounds more than I weighed in high school.

Dieting is hard, being obese is hard.

I am in my mid 60s and keeping myself from being overweight has been something I've been dealing with since I was preteen. So many different diets and strategies. What works best for me the past 15 years or so is to forget about regimens. So here's my method. I try to make healthy choices as often as I can, watch portion size, and don't beat myself up when I occasionally indulge. This way, I will settle at the weight I am naturally supposed to be. As the expression goes, l let the chips (or pounds) fall as they may. I don't do well psychologically with strict food rules.

Very Low carb diets help me lose weight quickly, but I always have had heart issues(irregular heartbeats and Afib) when on them. So, they are out.

I will eat only one meal a day to lose weight. The meal includes about 4 oz protein, a green salad with all types of raw veggies and sometimes a cooked veggie like green beans, asparagus or brussel sprouts.

I occasionally will eat 1 oz of very dark chocolate 72%.

I lost 31 lbs and kept it off this past year.

I can't eat food with gluten, so I haven't had the usual stuff like pizza, bread, cake, pretzels, pies, cookies or crackers for 39 years.

I occasionally eat plain steel cut oatmeal for breakfast...no salt, sugar or milk. I tried several times over the years and anything under 100-150 g carb a day trashed my health.

Whole foods, not processed.
Close to what would be considered a Mediterranean diet.
Little bread or flour
Minimal added sugar

I gained about 10 pounds recently because I went on a Tillamook ice cream expedition.🤣
I lost about 60 pounds in 2 years with no change in exercise pattern.

Low to no sugar, keto diet with low good carbs. Hubby lost 70 lbs. and I lost 25 and have kept it off for years. I was pushing a size 8 and now wear a size 2. I am small framed and always have had a pretty fast metabolism until I got older anyway. haha But we are both active as well. I also agree portion control always matters, as does the quality of the food. No fried and little to no red meats.

I still track my macros daily (Carb Manager), in order to keep myself accountable. I learned to look at keto differently, not as a temporary diet tool, but that it had to be a lifestyle choice. I also look at food differently, as fuel, not as a reward. DH and I love eating this way and believe in its benefits beyond weight loss, such as gut health, brain health, reversing pre diabetes. In addition to keto, I do a significant Intermittent Fasting schedule. I started out with 12 hr. fasts and built up to fasting daily 20-22 hrs. I feel great.
