Collagen powder that doesn't cause gas?

I started using the Vital Proteins collagen in the spring and can't get over the difference in my hair. Just the plain blue and white label bovine variety. It's not terrible with gas but occasionally I get a little "surprise."

I saw Orgain collagen protein on sale at Costco and bought a giant tub of it - big mistake - not posting the TMI details.

Is there any collagen that won't cause gas?

When I first started, omg it took a long time for everything to settle down. They say it is healing your gut, and that is what causes intestinal distress. I still get gassy from time to time and have been using collagen for over two years.

........and my gut is not happy! Anyone else had tolerance issues with collagen supplements?

I started this post a few months ago. I have reduced the recommended dosage and it has helped. I'm doing better

If you have issues with collagen then it could be the type of collagen your taking. Bovine collagen can cause more GI issues like gas and upset stomach b/c that kind of collagen consists of large molecules of bovine peptides. Orgain and some Vital Proteins brands are made with bovine collagen.

Instead try marine collagen where the molecules of collagen are smaller and easier to digest and absorb.

I am currently using Live Conscious Collagen Peptides powder with no side effects. I have used Vital Proteins brand also with no side effects. I add it to my morning decaf coffee. I have seen a big difference in my nails, they are much stronger.

I wont take my collagen in a powder, I take capsules daily that contain all 5 types of collagen. I use Nurtivein.

@Shelbelle How long have you been taking this product and what has it done for you?

I have tried Vital Proteins and one other collagen supplement and they both upset my stomach. I've been looking for one that I can take.

Hello, I have been taking 2 caps a day for a while now, cant say I notice any changes per se, but I keep taking them and also Phytoceramides. I figure neither can hurt. I like this brand since it does not contain tilapia as its marine collagen, I dont consume any tilapia.

I think I am going to start taking some collagen to see if it helps my hair. It is starting to thin some which is very concerning to me. I also want to see if it will help my knees.

There are lots of supplements out there geared to help with knees and arthritis, I take many of them. For help with knees UC II Collagen is the one to try. Take one cap per day.

@PilatesLover I am sorry you have this problem. I have been using Vital Proteins for a couple of years without any problems. Before I started on Vital Proteins, my 90 year old mother who grew up in a farm in the Caribbean recommended I have a banana every morning for breakfast to settle stomach issues I had because of medication I was taking in the morning. So maybe eating a banana before or with your collagen drink might help. I have the Vital Proteins in my morning coffee, which I accompany with a banana. I don't know if the banana helps, but that is how I take it without problem.

I did a quick google before responding, and several websites suggested too much protein can cause gas. I don't have other protein with my Vital Proteins, except a little bit of milk with the coffee. I have more protein later, at lunch.

The website healthline has some suggested remedies for this issue.

@Roni18 Vital Proteins did nothing for my hair, but Nutrafol did. Highly recommend Nutrafol for hair issues, The Vital proteins have helped my skin and nails. Noticeable improvements.
