Free COVID test kits expiration dates

Has anybody else run into information about this?

I received several free COVID test kits a few months ago.

Some expiration dates have been extended and some have not!

Confusing yes

Government websites have listing of brands and their possible extended expiration dates.

Mine just came this week and the original expiration date is covered by a sticker that's just not willing to come off. The new sticker on top of that has an expiration date of July 13, 2023. The website says they're good through February.

I think a lot of people are now in the "it's just a cold" mindset with Covid and don't bother testing at all which has led to a surplus of unused tests. You don't hear of any athletes now missing games or being isolated due to Covid, but there are a lot of guys with "flu-like" illnesses. I'm betting more than a few of those "flu-like" illnesses are Covid, but the teams and leagues have realized the threat to athletes isn't all that big, so they just let them continue to practice and play. Covid-19 seems to be moving more and more toward the other coronaviruses that cause common colds and aren't a huge threat to the healthy population.
