Even if the hospital isn't the best for treating either illness they can still send samples to the state laboratory. The hospitals themselves do not check for these illnesses. They specimens have to be sent to the state lab. Maybe the hospital has already sent the specimens in and they are awaiting the results of the testing.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

It just takes a longer time, as I mentioned to culture it and identify the med that it will respond to.&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

(Columbia Presbyterian/Cornell Weill Hospital)&amp;nbsp; The testing was done immediately and the results were back within a few hours of the testing.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>Sometimes it’s difficult to figure out the specific viral agent that caused the encephalitis. The preliminary screens can be done in-house and come back pretty quickly, but some of the more specialized tests can take several weeks and are sent to an outside lab.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Glad to hear they are going to Mass General.</description>
