I've only ever done the Miralax/Dulcolax prep before, so I freaked when I heard my group changed to Golytely (was equally freaked when I picked up that big honking jug from the pharmacy). Turned out to be not that difficult to get it down for me, as I mixed each 16 oz cup with a packet of lemonade drink mix. I started the prep at 1PM instead of 5 PM as they advised. My one big tip is to buy yourself a package of Depends. I had read that they provide security for your drive to the procedure. I put on a pair on the evening I was doing the prep, but wished I had thought to put them on as soon as I drank that first glass. We don't know how fast our system will react to the prep and when we need to go, we need to go NOW. I think I went through about 4 pair of underwear before I thought, "duh", put on a pair of Depends. You're the only one who knows you've got them on, so big deal. And, on a lighter note, you drop a few pounds, if only temporarily.

@joannecha

Do you mid if I ask what lemonade mix you were mixing with your glasses? Were you pouring a whole packet in each glass? I have my Colonoscopy scheduled for next Friday the 15th, and I not looking forward to it at all.

I am going to ask the pharmacist about starting the prep earlier as well. I am supposed to start it at 6 P.M. I work from home that day and I would prefer to start a few hours earlier, so that I am not getting up all through the night.

@icezeus I'd be willing to bet the pharmacist tells you to check with the doctor.

@CelticCrafter

The nurse actually called me yesterday in preparation for my procedure on Friday and I asked her the question and she said that it did not matter. It's all too taste.

I had a colonoscopy yesterday. I have had a few and each time was a different prep. In the past, I have been prescribed the pills and also the Go-Litley gallon drink.

This time I used the MiraLax and Dulcolax prep. I had no trouble tolerating this prep at all. I was suppose to begin at 8 PM the night before with 7 servings mixed in 28 ozs of Gatorade. Then I was to repeat at 3 AM the morning of the procedure with 7 servings mixed with 28 ozs of Gatorade. There was no way I was going to get up and drink anything at 3 AM. I began the prep at noon with the first half. I then did the second half at 11 PM. By the time I started the second half of the prep, I was pretty much cleaned out. I was able to get a full nights rest with only getting up twice and then was able to go right back to sleep.

I did the liquid fast for 2 days rather than 1 prior to the procedure. I also ate light on the 3rd day before the procedure. I think this was a big help with prepping. I was prescribed 2 GasEX before each MiraLax/Gatorade concoction. I used the white Arctic Blast flavor. (cherry) While it was sweet, it wasn't distasteful.

I was also prescribed 2 Dulcolax tablets for the two days prior to be taken at 4 PM. I did this also on the 3rd day prior.

If you have a choice of prep, I really recommend this one.

DH has his colonoscopy a couple of months ago. His prep was 12 Sutab tablets and a quart of clear liquids of any kind over the next hour. Then 4 hrs later, 12 more tablets and more liquids. Total: 24 small products, 96 oz liquids as long as not red, orange, or purple. From 5pm until12 am. Easy- peasy. I will insist on this prep when I am due for my next procedure. He drank lemonade, gatorade, sprite, pedialyte, etc. So much better and easier than what I have had to do in the past. I never even realized he was doing the prep until he was almost through with it.

I learn a little each time. Mine was in May. If I had it to do over, I would add the miralax to something that I could actually swallow easier. Then sip the Gatorade to replenish electrolytes.
I did take the advice of someone about eating lighter earlier. I started watching my diet four days ahead, and each day went with smaller and lighter fare.

Breezed through it!

I just pulled out my instructions and it said the MiraLax could be mixed with gatorade, propel, pedialyte, or vitamin water. No red, purple, or dark blue.

Also, I used the store brand of MiraLax.

I agree with you @tends2dogs. With this light eating your not even hungry on prep day.

I don't even do round 2 at alll. I just take a relaxant and go to bed at 8 pm as I'm usually first and have to be at hospital which is very far now at 5:30 am.

If we all would slow down on eating and fiber it is not hard at all.

I don't do round 2 because I'm clean early on and it only dehydrates me unnecessarily. You know what I mean. Then I get too weak in the morning.

When I had my first one in 2005, met with the gastro doc first for consult, first thing I said to him was, if you tell me I need to drink a gallon of a foul liquid, I am leaving now. he laughed and said, NO ! I have had 2 now and used pills both times.

The last time I had a Colonoscopy I had to prep with Miralax and Dulcolx. My problem is I can't stand the taste of Gatorade. All I taste is salt.

I have to schedule one soon. I'd rather not eat any solids for a week than drink Gatorade.

I can get cleaned out by eating something with gluten in it.

@tends2dogs I am glad every thing went well for you. I hope I have a positive experience too.

I am scheduled for cataract surgery next week....oh joy.

My first one was GoLightly. No way I can drink all that liquid. Second one was MiraLax/Dulcolax combo but my instructions were different. Threre was no getting up in the middle of the night to take anything. However, the amount of liquid required in the amount of time given I just can't do. And all of the beverage choices are too sweet and I like sweet. I tried and eventually threw up. I won't do that again. Next time I'll slow it down and dilute the beverage so it's not so sickeningly sweet.
