I no longer take medication since changing my diet and losing weight that has improved my A1C (as some of you know and have read my story here) But a lasting effect of diabetes has been neuropathy. My feet always feel like I am wearing socks. My 4th and 5th toes on both feet feel as if they are covered (such a wierd feeling) It's not painful just the feel as if I have socks on. Anyone know what I am talking about? Has anyone had that feeling and if so have you found a solution or spoke to your Doctor about it? I have an appointment next month but I really don't think there is much to be done about it. It's just a complication of the diabetes.

I feel great, no other issues just this wierd feeling in my feet.

I so understand. I lost most of my pancreas over ten years ago to tumors in that organ. Without most of my pancreas, I no longer produce nor use insulin effectively. I became an instant diabetic and take over 200 units of insulin a day along with other meds.

My feet do not feel as if I am wearing socks. Instead, my neuropathy makes me feel as if several of my toes are three times their size. The toes actually are normal size, but they feel weird and limit the feeling sensation in the front of my feet. It is a challenge, so I empathize with your issue, but I am thankful to still be standing. Good luck with getting answers from your doctor and congratulations on lowering your AIC.

Many of Andrew Lessman's capsules are made with gelatin. This may or may not concern you....just stating a fact. Years ago I called Lessman's office regarding this issue. I was told that they had several calls and were considering an alternative. The. couple of times I checked I didn't notice the formulas had changed. So I stopped using his supplements years ago.

Just a FYI for those that are interested. My husband does take a nongelatin capsule of ALA for neuropathy and he notices the difference if he does not take it.

My husband has neuropathy very bad, he is pre diabetic. He did work on his feet all day for many years. He has been walking in the kitchen bleeding and has no idea, when I told him we lifted up his foot and a big piece of glass is in it, he felt nothing.

Because of this if a shoe is rubbing against his foot he doesn't feel it, he has come close to losing a foot a few times from infection. He goes in every 3 week to get his foot cleaned up, they cut of dead skin and he feels nothing.

Gapapentin has helped some, they gave him a new medication I don't remember the name but it made him feel drunk for more than 24 hours from one pill so that didn't work for him. edited that I believe the new medicine was

Duloxetine

Just be careful and don't wear shoes that are too tight. Our insurance provides him with orthopedic shoes several times a year.

Maybe you could try that in addition to what you're doing for your neuropathy. I have 1 T of organic extra virgin olive oil on a spoon at night before bed. If you get the good stuff it tastes okay then follow with some water.

It's just a complication of the diabetes.

I feel great, no other issues just this wierd feeling in my feet.

Neuropathy can have some very strange symptoms.

Sometimes it feels like there's something crawling on my legs like ants, but there's nothing there.

My feet are numb from the top 2/3 of the way down, so I can't really feel anything from my toes on down until you get to my heels.

I can still walk, but the way that I describe walking is like having "clown shoes on my feet," because wearing shoes puts more of a barrier between my feet and the ground and makes it more difficult to feel where my feet are at.

I describe it like, "wearing pillows on my feet."

It sounds funny, but it's actually really frustrating.

My feet feel numb all of the time and I do get shooting nerve pains in my feet and legs.

I've had neuropathy in my feet and legs for many years now but I just started to get it in my hands and right arm within the last few years. It's the same as in my feet--numbness and burning pain and sometimes shooting pain.

I take prescription Topiramate, and I also take Alpha-Lipoic Acid, too. I take 600 mg. of ALA at bedtime.

I also take a Super B Complex Vitamin once a day. The Bs help our nervous sytem function.

The ALA helps. I can tell a difference too because if I let it run out, I have more nerve pains from not taking it.

Maybe you could try that in addition to what you're doing for your neuropathy. I have 1 T of organic extra virgin olive oil on a spoon at night before bed. If you get the good stuff it tastes okay then follow with some water.

Very interesting, I've never heard of eliminating seed oils. I use extra virgin olive oil when I saute my veggies. I'm sure I get at least a tsp of the oil from the veggies. I usually have the veggies at least 3 x's a week so I would think that should have helped somewhat. Thanks for the info
