SHINGLE SHOT

Yesterday,I had my 1st shingle shot,and was told other than a sore arm,there are no side effects.Low and behold,I woke up this morning,and feel like I have the flu.Terrible headache and a upset stomach.I had same symptoms with the covid shot.

Has anyone experienced issues when getting this shot?

I had no issues after my Shingles shots. However, I'm fortunately in that I rarely have side effects from most any of the shots I've had. Hope you feel better soon!

With my first shingles injection, I just had a sore arm, however with the second, I felt tired, and must have had a slight feve at the end of the day as I had chills. It only lasted about 48 hours. Hopefully you unfortunately were coming down with the flu about the same time you got your shot. Feel better soon

In 2019 I got the Shingles on my face. It was terrible. 6 months later, I took the 1st. Shingles Vaccine. I had a sore arm, headache, kind of like the flu. 6 months later, I took the 2nd shot, same thing. It was not that bad but definitely side effects. I can tell you, the side effects were less than having the Shingles. I never want the Shingles again.

@Luvsmyfam My husband and I both had the type of reaction you are experiencing. I guess the good news is our bodies are reacting to the vaccine. You may feel fatigued for a few more days after the flu like symptoms are gone.

I had a one day fever from both shingles shots, but a very small price to pay to keep from getting that awful illness !!!

I didn't have any issues with either of my shingles shots, but, I also did not have any reaction to any of the Covid shots.

My husband did. he had the same symptoms as you. I didn't.

The pharmacist told my husband that he would probably have

them again after the second shot, but fortunately he didn't.

I was ok with the second shot as well.

Yes, I had a similar reaction to the first shingles shot, about 6-8 hours after receiving it. I went to bed, slept, and began to feel much better and normal within about 24 hours.

I had a similar, but not quite as bad reaction after the 2nd shot. Possibly it didn't seem as bad because I knew what to expect.

As I understand, it is simply your immune system reacting to the vaccine.

here's some quoted copied info from BBC Science Focus that explains the why of varying immune responses to vaccines.

" Vaccines work by showing the body a microbial mugshot of a tiny perpetrator (such as a virus or bacterium) that is a threat to your body. This triggers an immunological fire drill against the invader, enabling your body to react much faster and better to a real attack. It’s this immune response that can cause some side effects.

Becauseeveryone’simmune system differs depending on multiple factors including genetics, age, biological sex, existing illnesses, and even our microbiome, it responds differently to vaccines. For example, an aged immune system has a good memory for dealing with pathogens it’s seen before, but it isn’t as good at dealing withnovel diseases like COVID-19.

Similarly, biological females have two X chromosomes compared to one for biological males. Many genes on the X chromosome are known to play a role in immunity, and marked differences between the sexes are being increasingly seen, with biological females having stronger immune responses. I was one of those people that thought...I'm good I don't need this. Then my cousin had shingles around her eye. Yikes! So off to the pharmacy I go. I didn't have a reaction to the first one but the second one...phew. I just felt off for a day. I stayed in bed and red and next day I was fine!

I had a sore arm, tired and a headache. No amount of aspirin would help the headache. The only thing that worked was sleep.

When I went for my first one, they asked about flu also. Being a daredevil, had one on each side. Only the flu on hurt. Go figure.

Since childhood, I have actually passed out a few times after getting a shot.

It's a real thing .... called the Vasovagal response.

As it turns out, I can get a shot in my butt cheek and don't have that response. Also, I avoid the hot sore arm reaction.

Obviously, I only get my shots at the doctor's office. Can't slide down the shorts at the pharmacy! lol

No side effects from any injection. However, I always rotate my arm well following the shot. It enables the fluid to travel into my system rather than sit in my muscles and knotten them up.

Next time, try rotating your arm a lot for at least five minutes. Vary the directions of the rotations. The more exercise you provide, the better. I've even gone home and worked on the yard (raking or digging up bulbs or planting new shrubs, etc.) I'm confident you'll see a big difference after using that muscle!

One of mine I had a slight fever and just felt bad for the evening on top of the sore arm, but the other was just the sore arm. Can't remember which was which though.

I get my first shot tomorrow. Whatever happens, however I feel after the vaccine, I know getting shingles would be 1000 times worse. I have no concerns.

I was tired for a few days after both shots. This was with the Shingrix vaccine, the previous shingles vaccine I had no symptoms.

DH and I had both shots 3-4 years ago and can't remember any side effects. Same with flu and pneumonia shots.
