Price of meds

I ordered my Anoro-Ellipta early this morning and the price showed as $440.00 for 3 month supply. I just had an email saying there was a price change and it's now $620.00 and I had to okay the price. There is no generic for this med. But like I always say, men can get generic Viagra for cheap.

That's terrible! Really outrageous. So many people have this problem.

Sometimes the company has discounts or coupons. And I know some people who use "GoodRX." Maybe worth a try.

It really stings when one needs a medication to function normally and cannot afford the cost. My RA meds are $5600 a month, we're trying to find another that works as well.

Check Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs site. He doesn't have every medication, but the ones he has are at unbelievably low prices.

I hope everyone can get the prescriptions they need at a much more affordable price.

I am so very fortunate to have good health and prescription coverage through my employer. When I decide to retire, that coverage is part of my retirement benefit. However, have any of you considered having your MD write a prescription that you have filled via website from a Canadian pharmacy? My daughter is a nurse and she said a lot of her patients do this. It saves folks a lot of money.

@We rescue cats , oh my gosh. I guess I shouldn't complain that mine are about $900 a month. That is my out of pocket. The meds themselves are like 16k. Absolutely ridiculous. Unfortunately all of the meds that are under that umbrella are the same so there is no alternative and no generic. Hopefully are you are able to find something else that will work for you.

@catter70 Most of the auto-immune meds are priced ridiculously high. Most of them are in the $7K range. I was on enbrel for years, it is now $7800. My thought (and it is probably not 100% correct) is that they offer high discounts, up to being totally free, that they can then claim as a write off so that they can get tax credits. Between that and donated medications (for samples and/or 'scholarships') it is quite a racket. My medication is Xeljanz, and it is one of the 'cheaper' ones.

Hard to believe that cost. That is 3 times what my annual income was when I was working. Paying $67,200 a year for1 Medication!

Many of us would have to suffer at that price. Wouldn't even be an option for me.

You can try looking for a grant to help with costs. I had to have help for my DH Parkinson's. GAWD, the prices are out of this world. They are very well funded because there's no money in it!!!!

@catter70, I also take Anoro but thankfully with my Advantage plan the cost is $47 a month until I reach the donut hole then it jumps.

I also have albuterol rescue inhalers and as I approach the donut hole I only use the Anoro every two or three days and rely on the albuterol in between. Works well for me and might be something for you to consider trying. Not ideal but better than not having the medication at all or not having food.

Another thing you might consider is asking your PCP about changing from Anoro to one of the other brands if they would be less expensive.

Check with your dr's office. My husband was perscribed a drug that would cost $675 for a 30 day supply. He called the dr and said he wasn't going to take it and would he suggest a lower cost alternative. They put him in touch with a rep from the drug company and he buys directly from them and gets a 90 day suppy for $250. It's sent through the mail and they call right before a shipment is sent, so he knows to look out for it.

go onto their website to see if there's a coupon. There's usually a coupon for the medication you're looking for and you just fill out the form and they send you an Rx # and group # you take to the pharmacy. It takes the price down considerably.

My husband was recently prescribed Anoro Ellipta for his COPD, but we weren't able to pay $600 for the cost. We told the Dr. and he prescribed a couple more which were just as expensive. Finally, my husband ended up getting Incruse Ellipa for $95. Sometimes you just have to keep trying until you find one that's afffordable for your budget.

Have your pharmacy check the GoodRX prices for you. I have a few expensive prescriptions and the the Good RX was one third the prescription insurance price .

I am prescribed Entresto for my Congestive Heart Failure. The cost of my other Mail Order Prescriptions are no higher than $35 for a 90 day supply. For the CHF it was $225.

My Cardiologist suggested filling out a form and sending it to the brand name company. This is to help those that are below a certain income to see if they qualify. I did/do, and that company now sends me a 90 supply free, for 12 months. After that I have to reapply.

So!!! Depending on your income? Might look into it. I doubt that @We rescue cats would qualify since she is able to pay over $67,200 a year for her RA meds.
