My doctor is probably going to put me on a pain pump. Has anyone else been using one? What is your experience? is it easy to use? effective? Anything else you can tell me?

@GoneButNotForgotten @I have not ever used a pain pump, but I am assuming that this means you are very sick. I just wanted to express my warmest thoughts that you feel better soon. Hang in there! I did. I had one when I was in the hospital after two abdominal surgeries many years ago. However I have reviewed hundreds of cases with pain pumps over the years. Your doctor must have explained placement and how it works. I won't repeat that. The benefit is you get a preprogrammed dose of pain meds but if you need an interim dose, you press the button to self administer it. Your pain meds are administered safely with no chance of overdose and your pain will be well controlled.

@GoneButNotForgotten : I've not had any experience with a pain pump but have friends that have and their experience was positive. Many of my family are medical professionals and recommend said treatment is successful. I sincerely hope for the very best outcome for you.

My friend with Guillain-Barre syndrome had a Morphine pain pump for several years.

He did well with it.

I had one for each of my mastectomies---but just for a week or so--looked like and was the size of a hand grenade--my DD called it my Mom bomb---it worked great!! I had a waist pak that I carried it in.

My sister has had one for many years to treat her interstitial cystitis. She has tolerated it well and is happy to have it. A few yrs ago she got very ill and thought she had a bad flu, but it turns out her pain pump had malfunctioned and she was going through withdrawal. Once she got that figured out and fixed, she was fine.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm not exactly sick but I have some painful conditions; I've been trying to get the pain under control and not having much success. I'm a little concerned by the idea of having morphine pumped into me but in a situation like this, you gotta do whatever it takes to make you feel better.
