I had started a thread last week how I was diagnosed with diabetes recently and happended quickly three to four months after COVID, anyway the thread got poofed. I started with Metformin and I was having severe stomach issues with it, so they prescribed Trulicity. I have been on it a week. I am at the lowest dosage which will be increased at the end of the month. Other than a little heart burn I have had no side effects. It really does totally stop your appetite or cravings. Long- term these drugs could really be the answer to helping eliminate obesity.

I have been taking Trulicity for weightloss since mid August. I did not have pre-diabetes. I was just unable to lose weight despite a healthy diet. With my health issues, I can't exersize enough to push my body into weight loss mode. I chose Trulicity over Ozempic because Ozempic had more possible side effects. I have lost 32 pounds since August. I was taking the lowest dose, my doctor increased the dose last week. I'm still in my wellness program for support. I get an occasional wave of nausea and I very little appetite so recreational eating or eating something because it looks good just doesn't happen now. I hope to lose 33 more pounds over the winter.

Meal replacements and shakes supplement our own lean proteins and produce. There are weekly support meetings. I lost 30lbs in that but after the first year, I've only maintained my weight. My body won't shed more pounds. It's not uncommon with older overweight people who can't do aerobic exercise.

I posted my weight loss experience using a similar drug. Mounjarno and I had some negative feedback. I also experienced some nausea, gas, and I have a decreased appetite and no cravings, so overeating does not happen to me either.

I am followed very closely by my Endocrinologist and Primary MD. I have lost 34 pounds since I started. I am very happy with the results that I have.

The literature that I read about these type of drugs, is that they are a game changer for people who struggle with obesity. In the medical community now, obesity is being treated as a disease and not one of willpower to avoid and limit foods. Obesity and its effects are deadly and we as a society need to look at it as the disease that it is. Most of it is genetic.

You may want to ask your MD for Zofran to help with the nausea. My MD gave me that. I started a new dose of Mounjano on Friday and I have not had nausea or any other side effects except the appetite suppression.

Good for you that you have lost weight, I bet you feel better. I am getting used to my new metabolism too.

Please don't let your feeling get hurt by how people reply, I was a little hurt yesterday when I read some of the replies to my post. Those people obviously don't know, care to understand, or understand the new science around the treatment of obesity.

All as I know is that I have many positive things happening to me because I have lost weight and intend to continue with my MD's following me.

I changed my diet.

I eliminated all sugar and salt. Eat whole clean foods and limited meat. I eat mostly salmon and chicken with vegetables. No high sugar fruits. Mostly, blueberries or strawberries. Limited dairy and not many grains or carbohydrates. I have lost 35 pounds. It took me 6 months. I'm seeing my Endocrinologist tomorrow. My A1C was 5.8, which they now call pre-diabetic. I'm going to ask about these medications. This is taking me a long time to lose the weight. I still need to lose 50 pounds. Like you. I just cannot exercise much. My Arthritis pain just won't let me! What is the "Wellness Program" that you're in?

Trulicity is not recommended for just weight loss - it can be dangerous unless you're a type 2 diabetic. Even then it's used in combo with other diabetic drugs.

Sadly, a lot of the patients who took it ended up having no future.

edited to add... Trulicity has been issued a BLACK BOX WARNING from the FDA. Risk of thyroid cancer.

I spoke at length with my Endocrinologist regarding the risk of Thyroid Cancer.
