This service will launch soon in 32 states and use secure messaging for dialogue between doctor and "customer." To start, the program will be limited to 24 illness categories. Insurance not accepted.

From Amazon:

To get started, customers select their condition, then choose their preferred provider from a list of licensed and qualified telehealth providers.

Next, they complete a short intake questionnaire. Customers and clinicians then directly connect through a secure message-based portal, giving customers the flexibility to message their clinician when it’s most convenient for them—anytime, anywhere.

After the message-based consultation, the clinician will send a personalized treatment plan via the portal, including any necessary prescriptions to the customer’s preferred pharmacy.

Virtual care isn’t right for every problem—and if we think that may be the case, we will let you know upfront, before you connect with a provider. Our goal is to make sure you get the care that’s right for you.

Amazon bought One Medical. I wonder if this relates to that purchase, or is something else altogether?

@On It I've been a member of One Medical for over 4 years. The program you post about is something entirely different from One Medical.

With One Medical I have a PCP with actual (or virtual) appointments. I never have to wait more than 5 mins for my appt. The office has a lab onsite so I can have my bloodwork done at the time of my appt.

If I have an urgent med issue, I can have a video appt immediately with a PA or NP.

The annual fee is $150.

My United Healthcare Advantage Plan is in the One Med network.

I am very pleased with One Medical.

In July of this year, Amazon acquired One Medical for 3.9 billion all cash. It appears Amazon will be using the health group to provide tele-health visits in addition to traditional health care visits.

This can be an important option for millions of Americans who live in healthcare “deserts” or have no viable transportation options for routine care.

It might be the best option for people with rarer, less common conditions. A good specialist with lots of expertise treating that condition could be in reach of nearly everyone with that condition in this manner. It'll be interesting to see what the 24 conditions Amazon treats are.
