Diagnostic mammogram

I found a mass in my left breast and I am going tomorrow for a diagnostic mammogram and possible ultrasound.

Feeling pretty scared. I am in my 60's, and my doctor feels it is "suspicious." Bouncing around between fear and trying to not think about it! So many women have to go through this.

Just went through this, and don't mean to sound flip .... but please don't waste your time and energy by worrying in advance of anything serious actually happening.

Wait until a diagnosis is made. So many times, it's nothing ..... or just something to keep an eye on in the future.

Wishing you all the best, but as others have said, it's not uncommon and may be something benign and easy to treat.

I agree to try not to worry until something is definitive. And keep in mind that new strides in medicine are happening every day.

I have been thru that twice, most recently a month ago...and also an MRI. Turned out okay/normal. It is scary but have courage and be strong. More than likely it's nothing. Praying for you, praying for good results.

If it's an outcome that none of us desire, hopefully you had your mammogram last year, and whatever it is has been detected early.

Like any unfavorable potential diagnosis, it is scary. Sometimes our minds just automatically go to to the worst case scenario and need a dose of courage and encouragement. I know we are all wishing that for you.

The positive is that you found the potential issue and are being proactive in having the mamogram/ultrasound.

I will be praying for you along with everyone else.

It is scary but the vast majority of cysts are benign, 95%. You'll still worry but it's something to keep in mind.

Thank you for your kind responses and prayers. A confession - I have not been having mammograms. Seems really dumb now.

I have had a severe anxiety disorder. I was improved a lot by taking Paxil. Being a hypochondriac was the worst of my anxiety disorder. So after the medication relieved it, I went the other way. I didn't want to think of health at all. Ignorance was bliss. Well, maybe now it was deadly.

I think more women than we might guess have feelings like this. I have some relatives who wouldn't have testing. Too late for my regrets, possibly.

@hyacinth003 I too went thru this and was horribly scared,but knew the almighty wouldn't give me anymore than I could take.i had stage 1 cancer and treatment really was a breeze.surgery was a in and out procedure, radiation for 30 days,and that was it.i truly wasn't even in any pain afterwards.i now take a pill once a day for 4 more yrs.i have been breast cancer free for 6 yrs.not saying every year I have a mamagram,I don't get nervous,because I do,but always so happy when it comes back fine.please let us know how things turn out.
