I finally got off my duff today and my first shingles vaccine (out of 2 shots), plus the vaccine for "old peoples" pnuemonia.

I was told that the reaction to the shingles shot could be...intense--that's med-speak for "you might feel terrible". Oy, "they" weren't kidding. the shoulder they gave the vaccine in, hurts like hell and I don't know if I can keep a doctor's appointmen tomorrow. How ironic!

Thank God I have prescription pain medication because I think I'm going to need it, plus sleeping medication. At 72 I guess I'm officially "old" but I don't feel like it; I gues iit snuck up on me by surprise.

Has anyone else had the shingles vaccination? And what was your reaction?

Good for you! This vaccine is quite effective and shingles can be terrible and long-lasting. I have a friend who's husband recently got it along the nerve to his eye. Very dangerous.
I have gotten the series, and glad they have it! I did have a low grade fever for couple of hours, but took some Tylenol and no big deal!

I also had my first Shingles vaccine,,$182.00 as I had to meet a $500 deductible before insurance would pay. I had fever and chills (could not get warm) for 24 hours afterward. Medicare and my insurance would not pay for this shot, although we are all being told we HAVE to get it..Number 2 in another month or so..

Years ago, I received the original shingles vaccine.

Last year I listened to my PCP and got the two dose Shingrix vaccine. My doctor had advised me that I might have some negative effects. I had none with the first shot, but then did not feel too well after the second.

Ask me if I care? Not one bit. Hopefully I will never get a case of shingles.

Congratulations on getting your first shingles vaccine ! Very good decision believe me. I have had both shots (shingrix) and as I posted here about a month ago or so I ended up still getting shingles. Although it was considered a mild case (because I had the vaccination} the shooting knife like pain on the right side of my head was horrible ! I had a rash on the right side of my neck and shoulder but no blistering thank goodness and with the medication my doctor ordered it was bearable and lasted about 3 weeks. Overall the vaccine was worth it.

I actually had Shingles at 62; fortunately it was a very mild case( missed a couple of days of work because I couldn't wear my bra) with no residual effects. In my own office I found several people who'd had it ( including a co-workers 13 year old son, who had a severe case on his face, near his eyes). DH and I immediately got the first shingles vaccine and several years later we had the newer two shot version. No terrible reaction but we both had very sore arms with two shot version.

I've gotten the series of the Shingrex vaccine a year ago, got my 2nd dose within 3 months, they give you a 2-6 month window frame to complete the series. I did not have any reaction except for a little soreness where they jabbed the needle in my arm.

I have not gotten the Prevnar 20 pneumonia shot yet.

@PuppyLoverBob666 Hope you are feeling better! I only had a sore arm from the 1st vaccine. I just had my one last week and it was a bit worse. Fever, chills, aches... the following day I pretty much spent on the couch. I read that the 2nd one is worse for some. My husband had very little side affects. But bottom line it's still better than getting shingles!
