I've gone through this process 4 times, it's nothing you can't handle without ibuprofen or Tylenol for a day or two.

My periodontist has me take 2 extra strength Tylenol before I get out of the chair. He explains that it is important to get ahead of the pain, and it's good advice I'm happy to share with you.
His team starts me on ice packs immediately with instructions for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off for the first 4 hours. This really prevents swelling.

I am prescribed Chlorhexidrine to keep the area clean & keep a supply of little sponges on a stick (Amazon).

I take a lot of Vitamin C to aid in the healing process.

Like @SilleeMee, it's a year long process for me, and well worth the time & expense. Implants are fantastic!
Good luck with your procedure!

I had three teeth extracted and bone grafted during the same day. Nothing to it. Just a little sore but nothing a few ibuprofen wouldn't take care of. I did receive a Rx for antibiotics to take for a few days afterwards.

ETA-

I have 6 implants right now with 3 of them that needed grafts. I'm getting my crowns next week! I can't wait. It has been almost a year.

What antibiotic will be prescribed as a safety precaution for your artificial joints? With this type of procedure, I would not be satisfied to take less than 2000 mg a day for 10-14 days. I always choose Keflex over Amoxicillin.

I've had three implants and I think a week or so of antibiotics. That's it. To be honest I don't remember if I ever had to take a pain pill. If I did maybe once or twice. Doctor prescribed something for pain, excessive in my opinion. I didn't fill it and just took an Advil when needed. It's wasn't a big deal. The big deal is the length of time from start to finish but worth it to have it done right. They use cadaver bone.

My grafts were made of what the doctors called "sticky bone" where they used some of my own blood, taken from my arm vein, and then it was mixed into the cadaver bone, made into a paste and then applied to the hollow in my jawbone. Doctors said the reason for using my own blood was that it would help heal the bone faster with less bleeding by providing it with the clotting and growth factors present in my blood plasma. They said it also minimizes further bone loss in the area where it's applied.

I too had a bone graft for an implant after an old failed root canal.

The bone graft itself was nothing. Just a mix they put in the hole after the extraction, it doesn't hurt at all. There are two types: I have cow bone in mine; my husband has cadaver bone.

It's the tooth coming out that may hurt, not the bone graft. You'll have stitches. I didn't even take the strong painkillers they gave me. One ordinary painkiller on the day and that was enough for me. I took antibiotics and swilled with salt water for ten days. It really wasn't a big deal.

it takes a couple of months for the bone to assimilate then they slice it all open again for the first stage of the implant, if you're having one.

The only part of the whole process I hated was that wretched temporary tooth denture I had to use to maintain the space between the teeth.

I had one done in conjunction with an implant. No discomfort. I actually returned to work afterwards.
