fell back and right away felt the pain in my tailbone . At my hair salon was paying my stylist and felt dizzy and just fell back thank God there was one of those thick rubber like runners , but still it was a hard fall right on my bum then fell completely all the way down. My tail bone today is very painful hard to sit especially . Tried one of those donuts to sit on only made it worse . Standing and walking feels the best . My DH is taking good care of me, cooking etc. Trying to get comfortable on my lazy boy not easy though .

will call my primary Monday and see if I can go for an X-ray. Hoping it's just a deep bruise and not a fracture . Bruised and turned black and blue almost immediately. I don't bruise easy usually. Has anyone had a tail bone injury , if so how long did it take to heal ?

I did smack mine standing up and hitting it on the corner of a cabinet. It hurt to sit for quite a while. Every injury is different and I hope yours will be a bruise that heals quickly.

I was surprised how long mine lasted and I don't want to be discouraging but mine hurt for over a year-maybe 2

and still sore a while after that!

Ever since that I have to sit on something soft. Maybe it is an especially vulerable bone.

Yes I did when I was in my late 20's.

Fell down 20 stairs backwards, all the way down.

Went to the ER and they said fractured, 2 weeks bed rest ,except to make it to the bathroom.

Third week, I made it to pt for ultra sound , ahhh that felt so good but every other day was a bit hard on the body..

Like another poster stated, everyone is different, I hope your injury is much less stressful than what I had,

However as you get older, you will feel it, as it creeps up on you...

Wish you well and a speedy recovery.

An acquaintance of mine broke her tailbone delivering her first child. She had to have a live-in nurse to help with the baby Monday thru Friday. Her husband tended to them on the weekends.

I hope you find some help getting relief. I guess ice packs are a little difficult to apply there. Please let us know what your doctor advises. Don't forget to tell him about being dizzy.

@Kitty Galore

My tailbone was one of my 1st injuries playing hockey. I fractured it back in the mid 1960's, and while it got better over weeks/months and years, it has never completely gone away.

I am talking fracture now, not a bruise. Like then and now, there is not much in the medical orbit that has changed when it comes to certain injuries, and this is one of them.

Like most injuries, the best thing to do 1st is use lots of ice on it. Depending on how big one's butt is, a doughnut hole would need to be big, and also very wide and deep.

Typically injuries do better with ice right away to lessen the swelling and tissue involved. If able to, anti-inflammatories can help with the discomfort.

Time frame for recovering(no pain) is like most injuries, it varies by the individual. You might try the softest material you can find to put under your butt. With a little luck, maybe there is such a donut hole that may work for you.

Sorry to hear about this injury, but I think you are lucky it wasn't worse. Falling backwards exposes the head, and any number of serious injuries can be caused when that happens.

To this day it is still uncomfortable for me to sit on a chair with no padding. If so, I do not sit there very long.

Good luck with this, just hang in there,

hckynut  🇺🇸

I broke my tailbone when I was in my mid twenties. That was about 40 years ago. The doctor at the ER told me ice and anti-inflammatory medicine. It took weeks before the bruising and tenderness went away. It took a couple of months before I felt like it was completely healed. To this day that area is still touchy if I hit it against something. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't hurt or bother me. Find something you can sit on to make yourself comfortable and be careful of sudden movements. I vividly remember making the bed really hurt. Good Luck!❤

@Kitty Galore wrote:

fell back and right away felt the pain in my tailbone .

@Kitty Galore

Oh gees .... get some Aspercreme or Salonpas with lidocaine, so you can apply it exactly where you need to. Hoping this isn't the case for you, but the pain can linger for a while.

@KingstonsMom wrote:

@Kitty Galore

OMG yes!

I also fell (not recently) and injured my tailbone and the ONLY comfortable position for me was standing, leaning on the back of a recliner, during the day and sleeping on my tummy at night (after a painful effort to get in the bed, to lay on my stomach).

I called my Ortho and he said that there's really no medical intervention, the pain/injury just needs time to heal.

But that was a rough one, hope you feel better soon!

ETA: It took several weeks before I could walk without looking like I had a stick up 'you know where' and could find more comfortable positions.

@KingstonsMom I also find my recliner the most comfortable sitting on a chair is too painful. I also find sleeping on my stomach is the best position as well. I'm walking the same way looking like a stick up my ya know 😹. I plan to call my ortho tomorrow.
