Nausea: medication side effects

A friend is taking some high powered meds and having constant nausea. He was given the same meds as given to those taking cancer treatments. He says he is getting some relief with CBD gummies. Any suggestions?

Any pearls for increasing appetite?

When my daughter had cancer they gave her Zofran for the nausea.

What does his doctor say? When I was on chemo, my doctor told me to take only certain anti-nausea meds, or I'd risk adverse interactions. CBD is not always harmless.

For nausea because of other rx's I've had doctors prescribe promethazine.

I think and my daughter does too that it works better than this other one, Zofran (odansetron is the generic).

I've had chronic nausea all my life and took promethazine (generic phenergan) (1) 2-3 times a day as needed, for 15 years.

My Gastro Dr. recently retired and the new one refused to give it to me, saying it's been determined to be addictive.

WHAT? Then why when he cut me off so suddenly, did I not have any type of withdrawal, other than barely being able to eat now?

I struggle to keep my weight about 105 lbs.

I've been offered (and tried) Zofran many times over the years and it did nothing at all.

I do better taking Benadryl, after all, that's all phenergan is, an antihistamine.

Since my first chemo treatment in 2017 I was given a script (and refilled a couple of times) for odensatron, generic for Zofran to keep on hand. I SWEAR by it.

The first time I had some chemo related nausea I was in Safeway and pulled it out of my purse. I was so shakey that I asked a nearby employee to help me get it off the blister pack. She was so sweet and helped me and asked if I needed to sit down or anything.

It works, I swear, within 1 minute. I need it now and then and am grateful to have it.

Unfortunately, his doctors say they do not have anyting to offer him. He is in late stage Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Natural remedies that work:

* sucking on crystallized ginger candies, chewing ginger gum

* drinking ginger tea and flat ginger ale

* taking a daily probiotic complex supplement

I believe you can purchase Coca Cola syrup at the pharmacy or online. (Old fashioned "cure"). It contains cane sugar, tho.

You are correct about Reglan-it helps empty stomach and can work if conventional meds not effective.The only drawback I remember was some people do get diarrhea. But ask MD to consider it as part of your treatment. I was an RN for 40 yrs in hospital and this is my opinion. Good luck

I was given several different drugs. Perhaps a trip to the doctor for a review is in order? A drastic weight loss could also be a concern.

I use Emetrol syrup, available at CVS, Walgreens, or any pharmacy. It stopped my nausea instantly where Zofran did not. Best of luck and hugs to your friend.

Exactly!!! @feline groovy Love the ginger for (chemo) nausea and indigestion. My husband does ginger and it works every time for him (from chemo).

Most nights just because, after dinner I'll have a piece of ginger. Nothing better!

I am on very strong chemo and suffer constant nausea and had absolutley no appetite whatsoever and lost a significant amount of weight. For many months, my doctors encouraged me to try medical marijuana and I was extremely reluctant and was not interested. It was later determined that I would need a feeding tube which I did not want and only then agreed to try medical marijuana. I have never smoked and don't intend to start doing so now and learned it is available in edible form. I am still in shock at the difference it has made to my quality of life and reget not having started sooner. The nausea is all but eliminated (I still occasionally take Zofran/Compazine) and I gained 22 pounds and feel so much better. I once again enjoy eating and no longer view it as a chore - as far as I am concerned, it is a miracle drug. For those who say that marijuana has no medicinal properties are just ignorant and have not reviewed the sceintific literature.
