I think that's a good idea since those shakes only have 1 gram of sugar. I'm the same way with needing to eat when I get hungry or not feeling well and I keep these and the

protein bars on hand and it tastes like a dessert.

Protein is what I need to curb my appetite and hold me over.

I'll have a handful of nuts, cheese, a couple of tablespoons of cottage cheese, a boiled egg. Sometimes a cup of hot broth hits the spot.

The protein shakes are pretty good and they have some new flavors, but I gravitate to savory not sweet.

I have a hard time controlling my eating in the winter. The dark, cold weather makes me want to eat and lounge, hibernate I suppose.

That's what I did when I got hungry when I ate early dinners and got hungry before bed. I never gained weight eit, but felt full or content enough to last until morning.

I'm high carb, so might not much help, but this is my remedy. I do keep a bowl full of crudities in the fridge; cukes, grape tomatoes, carrots, celery, cauliflower...whatever is available. I make hummus oil free with lemon, garlic, garbanzo, and a heavy sprinkling of smoked paprika. It is filling and healthy. I sometimes make a plate full of steamed broccoli (or any veggies) if I'm hungry for the same reason....low cal yet healthy, my priority. I eat fresh fruit if I'm hungry later in the day, Good luck to you.

For me, it is a choice. What are my priorities...if I'm stressed that is causing overeating ....am I practicing strategies to ameliorate the stress. Your mind is your most powerful tool when changing a lifestyle.

Best of health to you!

Summer is much easier, I grab a cold diet root beer for a treat and it satisfies. When I'm hungry at night in the winter, I grab a sugar free hot chocolate, sometimes two. Still a challenge to maintain in winter for me. I agree about the Premiere protein shakes, they are good, and they also help satisfy.

Carrots are full of carbs. When I eat them, I get hungry even though I know I shouldn't be. Years ago on a Weight Watchers we were told to eat carrots, but they made things worse for me.

I have flavored tea in my cupboards. When I am looking for a snack and really know I should not be hungry, I make myself a cup of two..

Usually, I make orange, raspberry or some other sweet tasting tea. It usually takes care of my cravings....with zero calorie intake.

I get all the protein I need to function at a high physical level. Is that because of my protein intake?

Absolutely not! It is because at least 85% of the fuel for my body, comes from complex carbohydrates, and has through my 40's to my present 82 years.

I have not heard of "well people" getting ill when they are hungry. I agree about the Premiere protein shakes, they are good, and they also help satisfy.

What brand of sugar free hot chocolate do you use? I've been looking all over for one and not just no sugar addded.

If I wake up hungry during the night, I can't sleep. When that happens, I pour a half glass of milk. Then I'm able to fall back asleep.

I don't think I'm a very good one to give advice right now as I am currently strugging with my weight and eating habits! But when I read your post, I thought to myself --- I don't think you ate nearly enough for your dinner and that is definitely why you were hungry! Eat a whole grilled cheese sandwich. Or add a nice hearty bowl of soup of some kind.

Definitely keep protein shakes on hand. My fave is Fairlife chocolate.

Apples, pears and lowfat Greek yogurt are also quick and easy items to have on hand as well as eggs- hard boiled , egg salad or any way you like to prepare them.

Ditch the bread unless you keep Ezekiel bread in the freezer for toast.

Drink water throughout the day. Sip as you go to keep hydrated. That helps keep hunger at bay.

1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich isn't enough of a dinner to hold you over. Depending on how big it was though. I often eat a "toasted" cheese sandwich but I use country wheat bread. It's more filling. So is a peanut butter sandwich. Oatmeal is very filling too and sticks with me. Yogurt is good before bed - I add 1/8 cup of Grape Nuts to it.

Sometimes just a handful of cashews or almonds takes away that hunger feeling when you just need...something!

Nuts are protein, and I find them satisfying.

Why only a 1/2 grilled cheese? You're not eating enough for the evening meal. Food only lasts in stomach for 4 hours. Not surprised you're hungry at bedtime.
