Walgreen's reward program is lousy

First they decreased the value of the points. Then they limited categories to which they can be applied. The latest indignity? They took my points away because they were more than a year old. What about the stuff I bought this year? Also gone with no explanation. (Mental stream of profanities here) I vow never to darken their door again.

I don't bother with point system b/c I don't shop there often. But because of 'my account'...saved $10 range buying various things at check-out.

Without account/card..... would have paid full price instead of their in-store specials.

I use Walgreens and haven't had this happen to me. I get emails regarding monthly specials such as spend $35 this month and get $7 in reward dollars. I go about once a month so it works for me. There are certain things I prefer to buy at the pharmacy. I would rather give them my business than CVS, as to me they are like a Walmart "bully", JMO.

I agree. Walgreens reward program is hit or miss with me. I met the spend amount and they never credited me with the dollar reward I had coming. It was just too much trouble to challenge them this past time.

I learned to always use any rewards money when I make a purchase.

I've been a Walgreens shopper for years. I'm in there about once a week - it's just around the corner. Their grocery section is limited - but their prices are better than the supermarket. Paper products are also less expensive.

I'm doing very well with points. I usually have about $10 or $20 accumulated each month.

Walgreens has always been sneaky and under-handed. Years ago, the Texas Attorney General sued them for their bait and switch schemes. They'd run ads for an item for a certain price but when you arrived at a store it was never available but there was a display with a higher priced, similar item.

Not a fan to say the least. I did just go in there yesterday morning to see if any Thanksgiving themed candy could be found. But like most stores Thanksgiving is all down and Christmas is all up. Walked out without buying a thing.

Yea, Walgreens in my opinion ruined Rite Aid in their take over .

I used to buy a bulk personal grooming item from Rite Aid each year that was donated to a needed group of people. I used to use all my Rite Aid bonus ponts to keep the item as low in cost as possible well below $1 each. Sometimes , I even was able to buy two for the price of one . However when Walgreens bought Rite Aid the same personal grooming item was jacked up to $1.50 each .That was three yrs ago before all this backlog of shipping items .

We get cash coupons for every prescription, (new or refill) at CVS. You buy makeup, you get beauty coupons! They genetally give me a 1 1/2 foot long receipt with coupons geared to my purchases!

I have a Walgreen's 5 minutes from my house and I would rather drive 20 minutes than go there.

Never got anything from the rewards program, and this particular store is always stripped like locusts have blown through.

Pricing on a daily basis is high, the pharamacy is overworked and slow...never enough people. They are frequently out of standard-issue drugs. It's lunacy.

I've had better luck getting my vaccinations at Walmart as they are very organized in how you can schedule.

I have written to Walgreen's corporate to voice my concern many times and....crickets.

Maybe they are working somewhere, but not in my area.

Oh, and yes, it used to be a Rite Aid, but really no better run.

My DD is a pharm tech at a Walgreens

She says you are doing the right thing to complain to corporate. Complaining to the pharmacist or store manager is a waste of time, they do what corporate tells them to do.

I take several meds per month and I never wait until the last minute for refills and I don't even use Walgreens. My pharmacy keeps stock low but can get the meds I need usually in less than 24 hours. I look at it as my new normal.

I just was there this afternoon and picked up some juice that was on sale, which is rare for this juice. I got a total of 6 cents in points. The clerk asked me if I wanted to use my $1 reward and I said skip it. There reward program really went down about a year ago or so. I remember when I could build my points up and get some nice things. Now, it would take 2 life times to build them up at this rate. I get offers, but I just throw them away for what I buy it isn't worth the effort anymore. I do know if you don't use your points within the year, you do lose them.

I hope your daughter has a better work experience than the people at my Walgreens.

The folks working there are going as fast as they can. I see they are pushed to the limit and there is never enough people behind the desk. It does break my heart....as I know their work days must seem like combat.

I would never say anything to them because they see the problem and are helpless.

I take very few meds, but now and then, I have a situation where I need an antibiotic or some med for 30 days and...the store is perpetually out.

This was before all the supply chain issues. They must do a HUGE drug business there.

I take one thyroid med daily, and order that 90 days at a time.

I never heard a blip from corporate....they don't want to know, don't care, and have no intention of doing anything about it.

Meanwhile, the store personnel is burned out on a daily basis.

It's not right, but I'm one person, and cannot do much.

@depglass I agree with you completely! They offer cash rewards but nothing qualifies. I had been buying my DH's Primatene there. My last purchase did not qualify for cash reward since it is "pharmacy" Huh? It's OTC so I called CS and asked. Oh no,it won't qualify.After several repeated calls to CS,I give up.I will purchase elsewhere.

I've done pretty well with the Walgreen's rewards program over the last few years.

I tend to wait till there are things I want to buy at the same time and usually take advantage of their "spend $25, get $7 in rewards" specials or similar.

Oddly enough, they frequently have the bacon we like at a much better price than any of the supermarkets (including Walmart). Generally half the price. So I get that when it's on sale.

The only issue I have had is what I ran into today! A local Walgreen's seems to not be updating the special offers in their computer system and I was leaving, when I realized I'd been charged full price for two things that were on sale. I did go back and get it sorted, but the previous time I just left everything there and missed out on the reward. It was just too much trouble.

I was aware, however, that the points (or "rewards") expire on a rolling 12-month basis. That's not uncommon with any rewards program.

Part of the problem at DDs store is corporate expects you to fill scripts, do vaccines and covid testing with no more staff than before. At one time I guess it was a good idea to give flu shots during the fall. Now it's covid, covid 2nd dose, covid booster, all every day of the year and endless testing, required for travel primarily.

She's young, she loves all the overtime she gets but I'm sure that will get old eventually

Our Walgreen's is a very nice store. It's very well stocked, clean and the employees are always very kind and helpful. I don't know anything about the reward program changing, and am not aware of it. I go to CVS a lot as I like their extra bucks and coupons, but our store is not stocked well at all. Their makeup supplies are terrible and you can hardly ever find what you want. I think Walgreen is kind of high on their makeup, etc. Walmart, which I do not like at all, is much more reasonable in prices for makeup and grooming supplies. For me, there are pros and cons with all of these places.
