You know what's sad, it's all used by 10/25, anything that old in my frig would of been tossed at least by the 26th, salad mixes don't last.

Some of you will probably laugh at this but I've been trying to figure out the best way to cook a green salad and have it still taste like salad.

@Mindy D I never buy dole packaged salads. I NEVER buy salads at krogers. I don't like what they sell, I don't like bagged salads that they sell.

Giant Eagle sells great locally Ohio grown salads that I tried one day and since then only these salads. This company is close in prox to me too, they do a number of different types of greens in their shell boxes so they're nice to change it up when I need more. Some have fresh dill in them, others fresh watercress and NONE have watery iceberg nor killer romaine from who knows where.

Love these greens packages this local grower chooses to do. It amazes me that romaine is still grown, still sold and still bought by many including tons of eateries/restaurants.

@PINKdogWOOD @Any field grown greens have the potential for contamination. The environment is teeming with microbes. Romaine lettuce has nothing intrinsically wrong with it. It is the places where it's is usually grown that are a source of the contamination. The Salinas Valley, in CA has many cattle farms and their waste gets into water that runs off into the fields. That is one of the most common ways that romaine becomes contaminated.

MindyD- Thank you for your posting and keeping us aware, it's appreciated!

I shop at King Soopers, which is predominately Krogers. I stopped buying bagged salads when I couldn't find a bag without "transparent" lettuce included, and with a sell by date of at least 6-7 days ahead. Instead, I buy a head and a few supplementals and find the head lasts me a long time, which surprised me (or I forgot about). And I can take a hunk and spoon on some tuna and have a quick lunch.

Now I'm really glad I did, I used to buy the Kroger's bag, a couple at a time.....

I should have included that I wash every head thoroughly as well as anything else that's grown in soil or produce.... very important.

I hope anyone who got sick from it is aware of the recall now. I don't ever buy iceberg lettuce in any form, so I am sure I didn't have any of it.

I'll never forget a lady standing in front of the salads at the grocery, telling all of us in the vicinity how she bought a bag of Dole salad and when she got it home she said it was all wet. She was so mad. As we walked away she said DOLE so we'd never forget. I haven't forgotten, lol. Thanks, lady.
