Study Linking Phthalates to Death

A new study was relleased linking phthalates to death by heart disease, esp. in older persons. An excerpt from the news stories you can find today online:

"Daily exposure to phthalates, a group of chemicals used in everything from plastic containers to makeup, may lead to approximately 100,000 deaths in older Americans annually, a study from New York University warned Tuesday.

The chemicals, which can be found in hundreds of products such as toys, clothing and shampoo, have been known for decades to be "hormone disruptors," affecting a person's endocrine system.

The toxins can enter the body through such items and are linked to obesity, diabetes and heart disease, said the study published in the journal Environmental Pollution.

The research, which was carried out by New York University's Grossman School of Medicine and includes some 5,000 adults aged 55 to 64, shows that those with higher concentrations of phthalates in their urine were more likely to die of heart disease."

@JanetsGirl @interesting to say the least. I often think what we put on our body and take into our bodies in the form of chemicals plays a big part in cancer and other illnesses. I don't know how we could avoid them because they are so widespread.

I was just talking to my kids about this.

I had already sent them this article.

Then I thought, instead of writing or reporting (not you @JanetsGirl ) on these scary things that there seems no way to avoid unless we use or eat mostly nothing!,

why not ban them permanently?!

It makes me mad because it is possible just there are many organizations that don't want to -it is always about money.

Maybe some people too are more susceptable than others because some live very long lives and may not even take great care in what they use or eat, while others end up getting cancer and other illnesses.

I can't go crazy about it all though because if we live in America, it is hard to avoid most of this stuff.

Europe tends to ban dangerous substances much more and more quickly than the US.

So now they found another to add more fear to those already in fear from the virus. Not too many people I know eat Phthalates, or suc* on those things.

I should have died years ago. In 1958 I worked making telephone wire with Polyvinyl Chloride. Right on the box, and 50# bags were the words"Could be a Cancer Causing Agent"!

Every job I worked there for all 33 years, inhaled/handled or inspected wires and all types of cables, which covered the polyvinyl chloride wires, with a similar type of Phthalates.

Add it to the list of microwaves/cell phones and the other hundreds of things some study said will cause, I think even pimples and cold sores.

I have said it many times before, but it's worth repeating: "I am going to die of something"! However I am not going to pay much attention to studies, probably paid for by some corporation that wants things made of a different material, that also It Might just, cause something that starts with: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz, that just might kill humans.

@hckynut I so agree, John. I have many grandparents and great-grandparents that lived with many things they say are killing us and guess what.....many of them lived well into their late 80's and all the way up to 95 yrs.old! How could that be???????????

I am so tired of it. Now they even do it with food.....the 5 fruits you should eat...then they come out with....the 5 fruits you shouldn't eat and they are all the same fruits! LOL!

I think the worry about all this stuff is what kills more people. They (by they I mean the tv commercials, the medical society, the holistics, and the list goes on and on. They have everyone thinking about their illnesses all the time which just keeps their minds on everything that could go wrong in your body. Keeping your mind on this stuff 24/7 and you WILL be a nervous wreck. Not gonna...not gonna do it!

Possibly now that we know this, the adage "When we know better, we can do better" applies. The generations of the future will gain from this study and hopefully, have less exposure to phthalates. I do know a number of things I have been purchasing as of late, have labels claiming that there are no phthalates in the product. Progress...

Most likely the reason everyone knows someone with and auto-immune disease....
